Cable Drum Trailers

Reid Brothers UK can supply Cable Drum Trailers suitable for both road (built to ECC Directives) and site use. The range of cable drum trailers Reid Brothers UK can supply are extremely safe and sturdy and all of the range is available in bespoke sizes. As well as the Cable Drum Trailers Reid Brothers UK can also provide trailer accessories, such as safety guards, and we can also provide a repair/recondition service on current trailers.

Duct Rodders
A Continuous Pipe and Duct Rodding System can also be referred to as a Duct Rodder, Conduit Snake, Conduit Rod, Duct Rod and Cobra Rod. A Duct Rodder provides a unique, condensed and man power reducing result for many applications. This product is an essential aid for electrical installers and cable layers. Typical applications are: surveying hard to reach or hazardous areas such as drains, installation of cables in ducts, using a Sonde transmitter for locating pipes and blockages and can provide the option of threading a draw rope through a pipe or pipes. This product provides a more economical result compared to the more traditionally used screw together drain rods.

Cable Rollers
Reid Brothers UK are able to supply various types of heavy duty zinc plated cable rollers to suit many applications and environments. It is extremely important that cable rollers are always used when pulling any cable. Types of cable rollers available include:

Straight Line Cable Rollers.
Manhole Entry Rollers.
Bend Rollers.
There are various uses for a cable roller depending on the environment. Examples of this being pulling cable through a trench would require a straight roller due to the narrowness of the roller and the legs long rounded legs allow it to sit on mud.

Cable Drum Jacks
Reid Brothers UK are able to supply various types of lightweight cable drum rotators, stands and spindles to suit various applications and environments. We are suppliers of a large range of drum handling equipment including; standard cable drum rotators (with optional anti-skid feet), heavy duty cable drum rotators, cable yard rotators and jacks and rotators for dispensing direct from vehicles. The types of cable drum handling equipment available are:

Cable Drum Rotators.
Cable Drum Stands.
Cable Drum Screw Jacks.
Cable Drum Hydraulic Jacks.
Cable Drum Drum Bars/Spindles.
There are various uses for a cable drum handling equipment which mainly depends on the environment. The variables that apply in choosing the correct cable drum handling equipment are weight of cable drum, ground conditions that the drum will be placed, and environment i.e. dispensing straight from a contractor vehicle or a cable yard.

Cable Pulling Grips

Reid Brothers UK are suppliers of a vast range of cable pulling grips, also known as cable stockings, pulling socks and sometimes known as Chinese fingers. These cable pulling grips are ideal for safely controlling the installation of electrical cables.

  3. 3. Site cable drum trailers 2 Our Site Range of cable drum trailers are similar in construction and operation to the EEC range but the braking and lighting systems are not in line with EEC requirements. The Site range of cable drum trailers are generally of a higher carrying capacity to the EEC range and used on UK sites where lights and braking system are required or are also often used on highways in many Countries outside the EEC, particularly in the Middle East. CDT10 In addition to the EEC and Site ranges, we also offer a bespoke range of cable drum trailers where you, the customer, tailor the specification to suit the contract, drum capacity or budgetary requirements. You make the choices, service brakes, park brake or no brakes, hydraulic lift or rigid construction, lighting/no lights, suspension/no suspension, mudwings fitted or not etc. The unit illustrated is an 8 tonne unit with no suspension but fitted lights and service brakes. 8 tonne bespoke trailer Trailer type Gross weight Payload Max drum dia Min drum dia Max drum width Overall width Braking CDT2.8S 3,500 kgs 2,800 kgs 2,550 mm 1,100 mm 1,365 mm 2,300 mm Overrun nonauto reverse CDT3.3S 4,000 kgs 3,300 kgs 2,550 mm 1,100 mm 1,365 mm 2,300 mm Overrun nonauto reverse CDT7.45S 8,800 kgs 7,450 kgs 3,100 mm 1,350 mm 1,460 mm 2,550 mm Overrun nonauto reverse CDT10.0S 12,500 kgs 10,000 kgs 3,450 mm 1,750 mm 2,000 mm 3,280 mm 2 line air CDT15.0S 18,000 kgs 15,000 kgs 4,650 mm 2,500 mm 2,400 mm 3,700 mm 2 line air CDT20.0S 24,000 kgs 20,000 kgs 4,800 mm 2,700 mm 2,400 mm 3,700 mm 2 line air CDT30.0S 34,500 kgs 30,000 kgs 4,800 mm 2,700 mm 2,400 mm 3,850 mm 2 line air Tel: +44 (0)141 425 1060 Fax: +44 (0)141 440 2257 Email: sales@reidbrothers.co.uk Website: www.reidbrothers.co.uk www.thorneanderrick.co.uk
  4. 4. 3 Trailer accessories Trailer drum safety guards, the guard illustrated is a full guard but these can be tailored to your individual spec/budget. Heavy duty zinc plated light guards. Mechanical drum brake fitted for overhead line applications or to prevent overrun of the drum (drum brake fitment reduces cable drum width). Stainless steel number plate holder. Removable electrical susie (curly cable) fitted in lieu of standard wiring. This helps prevent deterioration when not in use but also in the event of damage, the susie can be replaced without rewiring. Multi volt (12 and 24V) LED lighting, invaluable when using a number of towing vehicles, takes away the hassle of bulb changing. Additional optional extras include galvanised chassis, extension slides, spare wheels and tyres, spindle bearings, stepped collars to name but a few with tailored ancillaries available on request or go to www.tws-ltd.co.uk For trailer accessories
  5. 5. Trailer accessories 3 Drum drive/drum lift system. Diesel or petrol engine versions available. The system enables the drum to be rotated thus assisting payout and paying in of the cable plus facilitating a powered lift. The unit can be supplied as a power lift only. Export trailers 4 To reduce freight cost, trailers can be supplied in a knock down form, this enables wide units to be transported in Shipping containers or Tautliners. This method also has the added advantage of having the optional facility to increase the width of the trailer by using adding insertion pieces for that occasional wide drum. With this method of manufacture, we can ship up to 5 off CDT7.45 trailers in a 40’ container with ease and still have room for other equipment as illustrated with this Ghanaian contract. Before Used & Reconditioned 5 As well as manufacturing new trailers, TWS will service, repair and recondition trailers in your current fleet regardless of condition. We will also buy your old units or take them as part exchange for new or used trailer or equipment in our portfolio. For used equipment sales, visit our website for full listing. 6. 6. 6 Straight line cable / pipe rollers The SLR1 is a compact cable roller for use in narrow trenches and/ or in confined areas and suitable for cables up to 90mm. The SLR2 bridge style cable roller is principally the same as the SLR1 but with the added benefit of being able to stand over existing cables or objects in the trench. The SLR3 is an economical yet versatile and very compact cable roller for use in narrow trenches or secured on cable trays/gantries. Due to the design, this can also be used as a pipe roller for diameters of up to 200mm. The SLR4 is a heavy duty cable roller for use in most cable laying applications and suitable for cables up to 130mm. Note – for the heaviest of cables, the Diablo roller can be substituted for a heavy duty parallel roller. The SLR5 cable roller is principally the same as the SLR4 but with the added benefit of being able to bridge existing cables or objects already in the trench. The SLR6 is an economical yet versatile cable roller for use in trenches, secured on cable trays or bolted down as a materials roller. Due to the design, this can also be used as a pipe roller. For full roller specifications
  7. 7. Straight line cable / pipe rollers 6 The SLR7 is an heavy duty straight line cable roller, this roller is unique in that all edges are rounded to prevent the cable being damaged if for example the roller flips over etc. Due to the base size, this cable roller is also suitable for ladder racks and gantries. The SLR8 is an heavy duty super bridge style cable roller. The design allows for the roller to be placed over multiple cables and also has the added benefit of a high elevation of the cable. The SLR9 Cable Roller is principally the same as the SLR4 but is fitted with a steel flat plate bottom for use on sand and soft ground conditions. The SLR10 is a heavy duty cable roller similar to the SLR5 but suitable for cables up to 205mm. Note – For the heaviest of cables, the Diablo roller can be substituted for an heavy parallel roller. HR1 Hanging Cable Roller enables cable to be installed and suspended in elevated positions. Suspension rollers can be supplied as shown or with a ‘pigs tail’ fixing for attaching to a staining wire. Rollers can be supplied with a heavier duty roller for taking the initial elevation strain. 8. 8. 7 Pipe & lead in rollers The LR1 V style cable roller leads the cable from the drum into the trench, the design is such that cable is centralised prior to it being fed into the trench. This roller being 500mm wide also doubles up as a pipe roller and can be positioned in the trench itself. The LR2 V roller is generally as the LR1 but has an overall width of 850mm and a guide to help prevent the cable spilling over the side. The LR3 heavy duty V roller is similar to the LR2 but with an overall width of 1,050mm and superior quality rollers. The LR4 is a very heavy duty lead in roller where the design is such that cable is supported over the full drum width prior to it being fed into the trench. 8 Manhole entry rollers The MR1 manhole cable roller leads the cable from the drum into the jointbox/manhole or leads the winch bond out of the manhole. The roller has 2 hooks for location on the manhole edge. Note – the aluminium roller can be substituted with a steel roller for wire rope. The MR2 manhole cable roller is principally as the MR1 but the roller has 2 angled hooks for location on the manhole edge or on a 90 degree corner as illustrated. The MR3 is similar to the MR2 other than the roller section swivels to suit the direction of the pull. The MR4 manhole cable roller is a heavy duty lead in roller for the heaviest of cables up to 130mm. For full roller specifications
  9. 9. Bend rollers 9 The BR1 is a medium duty skid type corner cable roller. These can be used singularly or linked together using link pins to form a full bend. All the bend roller range have the same link/staking points to facilitate various bend/roller configurations. The BR2 is a heavy duty corner cable roller with universal link/ staking facilities as the BR1. The BR3 is a heavy duty triple corner cable roller again with universal link/staking facilities as the BR1/2. The BR4 is a light duty skid plate for use in conjunction with the bend roller range (illustrated with the BR1, the BR2 and LP1 link pins). This is an economical way to form a full bend when utilising other corner cable rollers. The BR5 is a heavy duty triple corner cable roller similar to the BR3 but manufactured from sheet steel for use on sand and soft ground conditions. Measuring wheels 10 The LMW1 length measuring wheel is an economical and light weight (1.8kg) tool suitable for distances of up to 10,000 mtr in 0.1 mtr increments. Unit folds in half and is fitted with a push button release clip, push button zero reset, fold down side stand, debris scraper and supplied with a carry case. Single Eye (SE) – Ideal for pulling medium to heavy loads, the pull can only be achieved from the cable end. Fleeting Eye (FE) – Similar to the SE type but for use when offset positioning is required and the cable can pass completely through the cable grip. Double Eye (DE) – Suitable for pulling medium to heavy loads, the main advantage to the SE Type is that the cable can be passed through the grip thus enabling the pull to be made at various stages down the cable. Lace Up (LU) – Similar to the DE type but the grip is positioned on the cable and then stitched together. This is particularly useful when the pull is from someway down the cable or when there is a connector on the cable end. Open Ended (OE) – Ideal for joining 2 cables and mainly used when old cable is being replaced with new (see our website for specifications). Non-Conductive (NC) – Ideal for use in water, fibre optic applications, offshore or for a multitude of uses in the electrical industry; dramatically improved weight to break ratio and made of a high-strength, non-conductive aramid fibre (see our website for specifications).
