  12. 12. Conclusions <ul><li>In the libraries attached to Sri Lankan universities all the library activities are not subjected to automation. It is limited to only a few activities. </li></ul><ul><li>In every libraries catalog Function is already automated (100%). </li></ul><ul><li>Automation of library activities can not be done in a short length of time hence it is a long process. </li></ul><ul><li>In every library there are only a limited number of computers for automation </li></ul>
  13. 13. <ul><li>A comparative study has been made and noticed that Moratuwa library has successfully used libsys software for their library functions. </li></ul><ul><li>The Alice for Windows software used in Open University and ISURU software At Ruhunu University have equal facilities. </li></ul><ul><li>Libsys & Alice for Windows which come under commercial software and ISURU software, are worth for the good services they offer </li></ul>Cont.

Identified Problems <ul><li>In fact every library has its own problems regarding automation. </li></ul><ul><li>High price of software, </li></ul><ul><li>Lack of trained staff, </li></ul><ul><li>Insufficient number of computers, </li></ul><ul><li>Lack of cooperation from administrative authorities, </li></ul><ul><li>Limitation of funds. </li></ul><ul><li>In Sri Lanka there are librarians and computer specialists. But the country lack persons with both qualifications. </li></ul><ul><li>spend long time to computerized their functions. </li></ul>
  15. 15. <ul><li>Allocate sufficient funds for automation. </li></ul><ul><li>Recruit trained librarians and computer specialist. </li></ul><ul><li>Processing library staff’s skills with plus factors. </li></ul><ul><li>Training library staff. </li></ul><ul><li>Feasibility study should be done before purchasing any software. </li></ul><ul><li>Develop open source library software. </li></ul>Suggestions
