    ‘INDEPENDENT’s?
As shown in diagram 1: We can view the dominance of independent labels globally for the music industry.
An INDEPENDENT: They are usually small independent record labels such as Triumph Records which have no financial connections to the Major’s, AT ALL.

Initially they appeal more towards niche audiences and employ/take on a smaller quantity of artists which they aim to keep a more ‘organic look’. An example of this may be artists under the genre of dub-step, a genre which has not been around for long, originating from South London, which has grown large popularity within the youth.

The major four are owned by the Live Nation which arise as the largest promoter and music venue owner, consequently, controls the music industry. Not only do they promote music, however they also promote various other forms of entertainment such as TV, Film, and Magazine. Alongside this the Major/Big Four have authority over smaller companies which produce and provide entertainment which we consume
Majors and independents are very similar in the way they that they produce music, HOWEVER are very different in the way they promote it.
