REMEMBERING CHRISTONGOOD FRIDAYGood Friday, also called Holy Friday, Great Fridayor Black Friday, is the Friday preceding EasterSunday. The message of Good Friday is : The way toconquer evil is through good. Similarly, violencecan be overcome only by non-violence and hatredby love.
The story goes as follows Jesus was born to a shepherd named Joseph and his wife Mary. He was born in a stable in Bethlehem , in the days of King Herod. King Herod came to know that Jesus was to be the king of Israel. So Herod wanted to get Jesus killed. Joseph fled with Mary and Jesus. When Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream telling him to go to the land of Israel as it was safe for them.
As Jesus grew up he became famous for his healing power and for performing miracles. People started hailing him as The king of the Jews. This made the religious heads of those times, envious of Him. King Pilates, who ruled over Rome that time, was influenced by these men and ordered Jesus to be crucified on a cross.
Good Friday is remembered by theChristians as the day when Jesus was killedon the cross. He was nailed to a woodencross by Roman soldiers. This is the reasonwhy the cross is an important sign forChristians today.Good Friday is a sad day and churchesnever have flowers or decorations on thisday. The church is left dark and there is justa simple cross on the altar. It is known asGood Friday because Christians believethat Jesus gave up his life for the good ofeveryone. The Crucifixion is remembered in Jerusalemeven today.
Jesus words from the cross, asking forgiveness for those who put him to death. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Jesus carried His own cross on which He was sacrificed. And yet all the while He prayed for those who hurt Him and asked God to forgive them. “
EASTER MONDAY : On the Monday following Good Friday, it was believed that Jesus rose from his death. This was known as his resurrection. This Monday went on to be called as Easter Monday.EASTER BUNNY : On Easter Sunday, many children wake up to find that the Easter Bunny has left them baskets of candy. He has also hidden the eggs that they decorated earlier that week. Children hunt for the eggs all around the house. The Easter Bunny is a rabbit-spirit. Long ago, he was called the "Easter Hare“. The custom of an Easter egg hunt began because children believed that hares laid eggs in the grass. Christians consider eggs to be "the seed of life" and so they are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Billions of years ago, Jesus Christ died on thecross to cleanse the world of its sins…..tocleanse the human soul of malice, treachery, greed and hatred towards fellow beings…..he wascrucified for that...and yet he bore it all with greatendurance……only to save us……but What have we humans done to the earth? Have we taken proper care of it? Have we made the earth a better place to livein? Is this why Christ died for us? Its time we sought answers to all thesequestions………….Its time we made amends tothe damages we have done to our mother earthby being uncaring and selfish….its time wecared….
