  • 2. Flight to Puerto Rico <ul><li>Interesting Fact: San Juan is the oldest city in U.S. territory, founded in 1521 by Ponce de Leon. </li></ul><ul><li>This makes it the oldest city under the American flag. </li></ul>
  • 3. Around the Island <ul><li>Interesting Fact: Puerto Rico was first called by its native Tainos, Boriken; or land of the brave lord. </li></ul>
  • 4. A little Tour on the Island <ul><li>Interesting Fact: The word “hurricane” came from the native Tainos living in Puerto Rico. </li></ul>
  • 5. Historic Areas <ul><li>Interesting Fact: In 1634 construction begins on massive walls around San Juan to protect it, unique in the New World. </li></ul>
  • 6. The Rich Port <ul><li>Interesting Fact: In 1508, the first school was established in Caparra Village, the first settlement established by Juan Ponce de Leon. </li></ul>
  • 7. Iglesia San Christobal <ul><li>Interesting Fact: The oldest church still in use in the Americas is found in San Juan which was built in 1522, La Iglesia de San Jose. </li></ul>
  • 8. Puerto Rican Hotels <ul><li>Interesting Fact: The flag has an important meaning…. </li></ul><ul><li>Red stripes - the blood from the brave warriors. White stripes - victory and peace after obtaining independence. Blue triangle - the sky and coastal waters. White lone star - the beautiful Island. </li></ul>
  • 9. Puerto Rican Beaches <ul><li>Interesting Fact: The coconut palm tree was introduced to the island from the Pacific in 1542 by either Portuguese or Spanish traders. </li></ul>
  • 10. Back To Jersey <ul><li>I spent some time reading my summer reading books in this library. </li></ul><ul><li>The books were called Animal Farm and Big Mouth and Ugly Girl. </li></ul>
  • 11. Jersey Boyz <ul><li>I used to come here once a week to eat a ½ pound bacon cheese burger </li></ul><ul><li>Won customer of the month </li></ul>
  • 12. Library Park <ul><li>I used to come hang out here with my friends. </li></ul><ul><li>My brother and his friends were often found here playing tag. </li></ul>
  • 13. Lincoln School <ul><li>I used to come here and play basketball with my friends. </li></ul><ul><li>The rim was bent so it was harder too shoot. </li></ul>
  • 14. Dunkin Donuts <ul><li>I used to come here to eat a dozen munchkins. </li></ul><ul><li>We met an elderly lady here and we thought she was a ghost. </li></ul>
  • 15. Roma Pizza <ul><li>Used to come here to eat two plain slices of pizza. </li></ul><ul><li>Best pizzeria in town. </li></ul>
  • 16. Café Cubano <ul><li>Came here to eat a Cuban sandwich or also known as “un cubano”. </li></ul><ul><li>It was a nice atmosphere because it was never packed with people. </li></ul>
  • 17. Quiznos <ul><li>Liked the meatball sandwiches. </li></ul><ul><li>It was running out of business so everything was cheap. </li></ul>
  • 18. Minit Mart <ul><li>Used to come here because it had a great variety of Arizona's. </li></ul><ul><li>The employees weren’t very polite and they didn’t want me to take this picture on the side. </li></ul>
  • 19. Ho Mei Kitchen <ul><li>Used to come here everyday to eat pork fried rice for lunch. </li></ul><ul><li>Best Chinese food in town. </li></ul>
  • 20. Depkin Field <ul><li>There were times where everyone from the grade used to meet up here. </li></ul><ul><li>This was the main place to hang out. </li></ul>
