17. 17. FEBRUARY 2007 - First newsletter QA PTA communicated with all through Akbar Qatar Academy Parents & Teachers Association We have been quite busy at the PTA during the past six months working together to serve our student community. Like previous years, the PTA has so far been involved in different activities organized during the school year: non-uniform days, Garangao celebration, library week, etc. We also participated at the “Welcome back to school night” at the beginning of the year and prepared an innovative power point presentation for the “Cultural Awareness Presentation” for new teachers at the primary school. Since end of last term, the school has provided the PTA with a large meeting room already equipped with a computer and located in the primary building. It is the room A17, located on your left when entering the main middle entrance in the tented area. We are sharing the room with the Student Council and we have worked very hard in the past weeks to make it look beautiful and welcoming. This place is exactly what we requested in order to facilitate our sub-committees meetings, all projects management, the communication with parents, teachers and administration, and it also provides us with

Last week, we have also hosted our first homemade bake sale of the year in the senior school. A PTA homemade bake sale is also scheduled in the primary school on March 13, and we will try to organize these events at least once a term.

The PTA will be handling the ticket sale booths at the Quackfestival this year and we will also have a stall offering homemade baked goods, Moroccan tea, and games.

We are also supporting the QA recycling program for paper and plastic and will be involved in the next “A Flower each Spring” campaign.

Finally, we have recently decided to launch a large fundraiser by creating the first Qatar Academy school year 2007/2008 calendar. Everybody will be able to contribute by sending in pictures, finding sponsors, helping for pre-sales and distributing the calendars before the end of this school year.

As you can all imagine, these projects take time to be achieved but let’s not forget that the best thing to spend on children is time. To become an active PTA member you do not have to master hundreds of skills… If you know how to bake, or sell tickets, or file documents, or take pictures, or read stories, or count petty cash, or decorate a board, or write articles, or find sponsors (or can be a generous sponsor yourself!), or so many other things… WE WANT YOU to join us! So give a call to one of our executive board members and we will surely find you something to do, because we always work better when we work together!

Hania SHARABI 585-3591

Mireille BANI 534-1292

Naheed PERVIN 656-9982

Taghreed Al TUHAFI 568-0986
