What's Love Got to Do with It? What's Love Got to Do with It? Presentation Transcript

    • What’s Love Got to Do with It? BREATH OF LIFE INTERNATIONAL CHURCH PROPHET JOY ALLEN 25 JULY 2010
    • A Foundation of Love Rebuke, without relationship, is offense Relationship is based on love Love is better demonstrated than proclaimed Love REQUIRES SACRIFICE Romans 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (KJV).  But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us (AMP).
    • What Does Love “Look” Like 1 Corinthians 13 Independent of gifts  Not resentful Must be the motive  Doesn’t seek revenge Enduring  Rejoices in righteousness Patient  Strong Kind  Never failing Not arrogant, prideful  Honest Not rude  Exemplified in maturity Not selfish  Greater than faith Not envious, jealous  Greater than hope Not boastful  Required for spiritual gain
    • God is Love 1 John 4:7-9  Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him (KJV).  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is (springs) from God; and he who loves [his fellowmen] is begotten (born) of God and is coming [progressively] to know and understand God [to perceive and recognize and get a better and clearer knowledge of Him]. He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest (displayed) where we are concerned: in that God sent His Son, the only begotten or unique [Son], into the world so that we might live through Him (AMP).
    • God is Love 1 John 4:15-17  Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world (KJV).  Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God. And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him. In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world (AMP).
    • Do We Have to Love Everybody? Do NOT love the “things of the world”  1 John 2:15-16  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world (KJV).  Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in ones own resources or in the stability of earthly things]--these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself] (AMP).
    • Duplicate God’s Love God doesn’t love the “things of this world,” but He does love the PEOPLE of this world, and we must follow the example of our Father!  John 3:16-17  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved (KJV).  For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him (AMP). NOTE: If Jesus was not sent to condemn, why do we?
    • Why is it hard for us to show love? PRIDE – It’s all about “me and my ministry” FEAR and INSECURITY LACK OF DISCIPLINE– Personal conviction (by the Holy Spirit) is lacking UNWILLINGNESS TO SACRIFICE – Desiring to remain “comfortable” THE NEED TO BE “RIGHT” MISUNDERSTANDING GOD’S WORD SELF JUSTIFICATION – Achieved by condeming others SELF PROMOTION AND IDOLATRY
    • What Did Jesus Do? Showed mercy to the “world” and chastised the “believers” Always operated in love, bringing glory to the Father THINK ON THESE THINGS  How do you deal with “sinners” and “unbelievers? Does it mirror the practices of Jesus?  Have you made it a mission to show love only to your brothers and sisters in Christ, feeling it’s not necessary for those who are unbelievers?  Think about the ministry of Jesus. How did he deal with unbelievers vs. believers?
