Foundational Doctrine<br />Hebrews 6:1-2<br />Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, <br />Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. <br />The laying on of hands is more than an act; it’s a doctrine.<br />

Significance<br />Represents the transfer of blessings from God to His people<br />Healing, Deliverance<br />Baptism of the Holy Ghost, Impartation, Transfer<br />Ordination, Consecration, Identification<br />Blessing, Prophecy<br />Represents submission to God and His Church<br />Represents civil authority and appointment<br />Represents consecration to God<br />A tool to focus the faith of God’s people<br />

Healing<br />Mark 6:5<br />… he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.<br />Mark 16:17-18<br />And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; <br />They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.<br />Luke 4:40<br />… he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.<br />Acts 28:8<br />… Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.<br />

Ordination and Anointing<br />Numbers 27:18-20<br />Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;<br />Deuteronomy 34:9<br />And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him:<br />Acts 6:3-6; 13:1-4<br />Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.<br />1 Timothy 4:14 <br />Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.<br />

  10. 10. Not Always Mandatory<br />Matthew 8:5-13<br />The Centurion’s servant<br />Acts 2:1-4; 10:44; 14:9-10<br />Baptism of the Holy Ghost<br />… the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.<br />FAITH is the key!<br />The laying on of hands is not beneficial without faith.<br />

Signifies Covenant<br />1 Timothy 4:14<br />Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.<br />2 Timothy 1:6<br />Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.<br />

Responsibility Required<br />1 Timothy 5:17-22<br />Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. <br />For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. <br />Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. <br />Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. <br />I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. <br />Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. <br />

When is it not?<br />Why do you think God put this practice in place?<br />Think of a time when hands were laid on you… What was the purpose or significance? How would the experience differ had hands not been laid on you?<br />What about anointing oil? Study the Scriptures to gain an understanding of the correlation between anointing with oil and the laying on of hands.<br />
