New mental health series “Head Space”
beginning this August on 103.2 Dublin City
                    FM
Mental health and its many branches; in the mansion that is our head, there are many
chambers.

This 6-part radio series dealing with mental health explores some of the ‘taboo‘
conditions and areas that affect people in Ireland by talking to the professionals, the
therapists and the sufferers. The series will air on “103.2 Dublin City FM“ every
Wednesday at 12.30pm from the 18th August until the 22nd September.

What is novel about our approach is that we not only explore in an accessible manner
five specific areas of mental health including: Depression, Suicide, Schizophrenia,
Eating Disorders and OCD, but we then round off the series with a final sixth show on
Psychologists and Alternative therapists. It is one thing to deal professionally with a
person suffering from a condition such as Anorexia, but what have they learnt from
their daily struggle with mental disorder? What is the best practice when dealing with
people suffering from mental disorders?

As Irish society evolves, we are being obliged to come up with new names and
specialists for the myriad shades of mental health issues that we feel are deserving of
a specific term. Each programme begins by explaining the condition in terms
accessible to a wide audience. We then speak to someone who has suffered from the
condition. Finally, we discuss how the condition is tackled by the professionals. To
find out more tune in to “103.2 Dublin City FM“ each Wednesday at 12.30pm from
18th August. The series was produced and presented by Heather MacLeod and
Gerard Counihan and kindly made with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of
Ireland.
