The 2nd Workshop on Principles and Applications of Adsorption by Activated Carbon

  1. 1. The 2nd workshop onPrinciples and Applications of Adsorption byActivated CarbonDate : 18thNovember 2013 (Monday)Venue : Eastin Hotel, PenangTime : 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.HRDF Claimable**Subject to HRDF ApprovalOrganized and managed by: In collaboration with:USAINS Holding Sdn. Bhd.(wholly-owned by Universiti Sains Malaysia)Universiti Sains Malaysia
  2. 2. IntroductionAdsorption is a process of attracting molecules frombulk fluid to a solid surface. The best and most famousof such solids known is activated carbon. Activatedcarbon (AC) is one of the best discoveries that manever made in technological advancement. Someregards AC as natures gift to man with its use in air, water and food purification, and in the field of medicinewhich are among man’s essential commodities. It canalso be used for treating industrial effluents, oil spillsand an inexhaustible list of areas of application. Sinceits use cuts across almost every aspects of life, it isimperative for people to be informed on potentials inAC applications. As a researcher in AC field, do you wish to knowthe current trend research areas and be at thecutting edge of your profession? As an entrepreneur or producer of AC, do youwish to find out what consumers or the worldwants from AC producers cum modern and easierways of producing AC in large quantity? As a potential consumer of AC, do wish to find outthe numerous challenges or problems that AC cansolve and the best and latest ways of using it? As researcher and postgraduate student, are youinterested to know the current research trends andfuture directions in the field? These and a lot of other information would be madeclear in this workshop. Come and join us, don’t be leftout.Workshop outcomesAt the end of this workshop, participants should beable to: Master the fundamental principles of adsorptionand its applications. Master the fundamentals of AC production byconventional and microwave methods. Master modern and easier ways of producinglarge quantity of AC. Understand the chemistry and engineeringactivity that goes on when AC is solving yourproblem. Improve their ability to select the right type of ACfor any given challenge/problem/application. Understand AC regeneration techniques and tobe able to use your AC as many times as youwish before discarding it.Aim of the WorkshopThe workshop will expose or reveal to the participantsthat condensed secret of AC that has been withheld bysome few individuals in the world. Comprehensiveinformation on AC from laboratory research, industrialproduction and its applicability by consumers will beunveiled. The workshop will prove to you that good AChas never failed in its application unless if there wassomething wrong with its production or usage.Targeted AudienceThe workshop is designed for Researchers, Managers,Engineers, Technicians, Chemists and the generalpopulace who wants to have basic and in-depthunderstanding on AC, its production, workingmechanism, areas of applications and regeneration.Topics of the workshop Principles of adsorption process. Application of adsorption process in gas andliquid phases (modern methods). Modeling of adsorption process-Batch andcontinuous systems. The world of AC. Good AC: starting materials, classification andproperties. Methods of production: conventional andmicrowave heating methods. In-depth knowledge of AC through itscharacterization. Life cycle/Reusability/Regeneration of AC foradsorption. The past, current research trends and futuredirections in the field.Workshop Fee:(Covers course material, refreshment including lunch andCertificate of Attendance.)Normal : MYR 799.00 per personGroup : MYR 699.00 per person(Minimum 3 participants from the same institution)Student : MYR 599.00 per person– Proof of I.D. is requiredSeats arelimited!
