  • 2. SAP Implementation – Role of FICO ConsultantEvery job opening I see in the internet, the first and the foremost requirement I see is " Full CycleImplementation". So, I think its important to first know what it means, why it is so important and what aredifferent steps involved in a full cycle implementation and what role does a FICO consultant plays in it.SAP implementation (Called as ASAP" Accelerated System Application Product" Methodology) majorlyconsists of 5 steps.1. Project Preparation - In this phase clear project objectives and efficient decision making processes aredefined. Project organizational roles are defined and implementation scope is finalized.So basically the following are discussed and documented. Initial Project Planning Project Procedures Project team members and their training Project Kickoff Technical Requirements Quality CheckIn real-time basically what happens is all the details of the projects are set, who will be the project managerfrom implementers side and from client side, then the whole team is selected of both sides, sometimesthere are interviews of consultants as well from the client, where client decides which consultants theywant for their implementation. Then the sign up of the project is done and sometimes presentation onevery module os given as well if there is a date gap between the sign up date and the project start date.2. Business Blueprint - In this phase, the scope of the R/3 implementation is defined and the BusinessBlueprint is created. The Business Blueprint is a detailed documentation of the customer’s requirements.R/3 - It is an enterprise-wide information system designed to coordinate all the resources, information, andactivities needed to complete business processes such as order fulfillment or billing and is now known asERP. ERP- Integrates internal and external management information across an entire organization, embracingfinance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and service, customer relationship management etc.)In this phase, a detailed study of business processes and business requirements are undertaken by theProject Team members. This is the phase where Project Team Members interact with respective CoreTeam Members or Process Owners. The entire requirements gathered during this phase are documentedas Business Blueprint. During this phase, following components are discussed and documented: Project Management Organizational Change Management Training Develop System Environment Organizational Structure Definition Business Process Analysis Business Process Definition Quality Check © 2011-2013 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
  • 3. 3. Realization - The purpose of Phase 3 is to configure the R/3 system. The configuration is carried out intwo steps: baseline configuration and final configuration. In this phase, all the business and process requirements are implemented as documented in BusinessBlueprint. SAP R/3 system is configured step by step in two work packages, Baseline and Finalconfiguration. How these configurations will be done and how it will be tested. Baseline Configuration and Confirmation System Management Final Configuration and Confirmation Development of external Programs & Interfaces Unit Testing & Documentation Final Integration Test Business Scenarios & Process Documentation End User Training & Documentation Quality Check4. Final Preparation - The purpose of this phase is to complete the final preparation of the R/3 system forgoing live. This includes testing, user training, system management, and cutover activities to finalize yourreadiness to go live.During this phase, following activities are discussed, completed and documented, successful completion ofthese activities leads to transition of all configurations settings to live R/3 System System Management Stress & Volume Tests Cutover Strategies & Plans End User Training Quality Check5. Going Live and Support - During this phase, the first early watch session should be held, where SAPexperts analyze the system’s technical infrastructure.   • 4. Role of FICO consultant in Implementation:This is what we (FICO Consultants) require to know. The rest above is for general knowledge and well ofcourse for interviews.Main responsibilities are Attending meetings with the client. Gathered Information on their current business processes and prepare a document on that which is nothing but As-Is (A description of the current flow of a process, including sub processes and activities showing how products and services are created) process. While doing business blue printing, SAP consultant goes to client and understands their business model, how they are working and what they have been doing is AS-IS. Gathered information on their business requirements, and prepare a document on that which is nothing but To-Be process. TO BE is a pan SAP consultant will present them which will enable them to improve their service, operations and controlling while keeping their costs minimum. post implementation) Mapping the source data element for each data element in the target environment, this is nothing but Data Mapping. Finding the gap between As-Is and To-Be processes, which is nothing but Gap Analysis. And prepare a document on the requirements gathered during workshops which is nothing but Business Blueprint. Based on this technical people implement business processes. Involved in functional testing and Integration Testing. Configured Global settings and Enterprise structure settings. Configured G/L, A/P, A/R, Asset Accounting. Prepared End user training Document. Preparing workflow which is nothing but sequence of business processes flow to complete the project within defined scope, budget and time.
