Cancún, Quintana Roo, México, August 27, 2014.: The Ponte al 100 (Be 100% Fit) program that
combines nutritional and physical activity recommendations in its pilot phase in Mexico has
been able to stop the increase of obesity levels in most participants and reduce fat percentages
in 1% and 2%.
This project, promoted by the Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte (CONADE), the
Federación Mexicana de Medicina del Deporte (FMMD) and as founding partners Coca-Cola
Foundation and the Fundación Movimiento es Salud, will hold today and tomorrow in Cancun its
first International Be 100% Fit Forum attended by more than 400 specialists, government and
institutional representatives to report and share best practices to fight physical inactivity,
overweight and obesity.
CONADE’s General Director Jesus Mena explained during the opening ceremony that Ponte al
100 has already registered more than one million people. Of these, in 600 school centers and in
2,828 State and Municipal Sports Centers more than 900 thousand people between 6 and 60
years old were evaluated, and of these, 125 thousand underwent a second evaluation (64% of
them had a 2% drop in fat with a recommended five-week physical activity program).
Ponte al 100 will start its national phase in September and it anticipates that for the next six
years it will have measurement points in 140,000 grammar schools and junior high schools, in
15,000 sports centers and in 100 companies with more employees where periodic evaluations of
the physical condition will be made together with nutritional and physical activity
recommendations.
To Coca-Cola de Mexico President, “a real solution can only be accomplished through education,
through a cultural change in the principles and values pattern. History has shown that in this
field impositions never get farther than the individual commitment by people. Coca-Cola shares
the vision of incorporating more people to active and healthy life styles. That is why in 2013 we
became proud founding allies of Ponte al 100.” This way, Crespo invited other entities of the
private sector and the government to join this project and stated that Coca-Cola “believes in the
Program but will not be able to solve the problem of obesity without the participation of the
Government as well as of private and social entities”.

Medicina del Deporte (Mexican Sports Medicine Federation) emphasized that this forum
“will benefit public health required by our country before the increase of obesity and
chronic-degenerative diseases. PA is the main axis to promote, prevent, preserve and
develop health in the Mexican population”.

Director of Health Promotion from the Department of Health, he said that “sedentarism is
an anti-natural condition of man; therefore, we have to acknowledge the importance of

challenge of doing whatever is necessary for our children no to live less years than us or
than our grandparents. It is our viability as human species”.
