  2. 2. Tatras <ul><li>The Tatra Mountains, Tatras or Tatra constitute a mountain range which forms a natural border between Slovakia and Poland . They occupy an area of 750 km², the major part (600km²) of which lies in Slovakia. The highest mountain is Gerlach at 2,655 m, located in Slovakia. The north-western peak of Rysy (2,499 m) is the highest Polish mountain. </li></ul><ul><li>The Tatras consist of: </li></ul><ul><li>Western Tatras (Západné Tatry ) </li></ul><ul><li>Eastern Tatras (Východné Tatry ) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry ) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Belianske Tatras (Belianske Tatry ) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>The Tatra Mountains are the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains . Although they are smaller than the Alps , they are classified as having an alpine landscape. Tatras are popular for tourists and scientists. </li></ul>

  5. 5. Great Fatra <ul><li>Great Fatra is a National Park in Slovakia. Most of it lies in the southern part of the Žilina Region and a small part in the northern part of Banská Bystrica Region. The national park and its protective zone comprise most of the Great Fatra Range which belongs to the Outer Western Carpathians. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Pieniny National Park <ul><li>Pieniny National Park   is a national park in northern Slovakia. The park is located in the western Pieniny Mountains on the border with Poland. It is the smallest national park in Slovakia with an area of 37.5 km² and its zone covers an area of 224.44 km² . </li></ul>
  7. 7. Slovak Paradise <ul><li>The Slovak Paradise is a plain with high plateaus  </li></ul><ul><li>(800 - 1000 m). The highest mountain is „ Ondrejisko “ at 1,270 m. The area is mainly built of karst limestone (Geravy, Glac, Pelc and Skala plains) and dolomite. The climate is moderately cold. </li></ul>

Spa cities <ul><li>The use of natural curative resources, baths, drinking mineral water and spa treatment generally have played an important role in medicine long time ag o and represent one of the oldest forms of treatment. Spas have mineral water and thermal springs, and sources of peat and mud. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament, and the executive branch of the government. It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural, and educational institutions. </li></ul>
