AIM : To find out about jobs and living conditions in the north and south of Italy
OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson
Pupils will know: That differences exist between employment structures in the north and south
of the country
Pupils will understand: What Primary, Secondary and Tertiary industry is and how it is linked
to the physical characteristics of the two areas.
Pupils can do: Spider diagram showing advantages/disadvantages of farming in the north/south
and graphs showing employment structures.

LESSON STRUCTURE

Start with Life in the North p.84-85. Recap what we already know about these areas.
• Read through text on p.84-85
• Use the PowerPoint to highlight what a Primary, Secondary and Tertiary job could be.
May want to use the loaf of bread example of farmer (primary) baker (secondary) sold
in Tesco (tertiary)……
• Ask the students to classify the job types into the correct category in the back of
their books.
• Complete activity 1 – using graph paper.
• Read through the text on industry on page 85.
• Then follow instructions on slide 5 of the lesson PowerPoint.

HOMEWORK
Revision for test next week (unless you want to complete the extension activity – How
