Brief for homework writing exercise
Imagine that you are a journalist for the magazine National Geographic. You have
been asked to write an article about the impact of drought in the twenty-first century.
You need to compare a more economically developed country (MEDC) with a less
economically developed country (LEDC).
Your article could include the following information:
• a brief geographical description of the country, explaining where it is, how big it is
and how many people live there
• the level of economic development
• the causes of the droughts
• the impacts of the droughts
• the measures being taken to alleviate problems caused by the droughts.
Success criteria
1 You need to include information on at least one MEDC and one LEDC.
2 You need to show an understanding of why the droughts happened in the
countries you have researched.
3 You should demonstrate an understanding of the impacts of droughts in MEDCs
and LEDCs.
4 You should include at least one diagram and make your piece of work look like a
National Geographic article.
