Sexting? <ul><li>Sexting is the act of sending, receiving, or forwarding messages, photos or images via cell phone computer or other. </li></ul><ul><li>Sexting is a growing problem among teenagers. </li></ul><ul><li>With the increase of technology pictures are easily uploaded to the internet. </li></ul>

Why Sext? <ul><li>51% of girls get pressure from a guy </li></ul><ul><li>18% of guys get pressure from a girl </li></ul><ul><li>To be “fun or flirtatious” </li></ul><ul><li>Send as a sexy present to partner </li></ul><ul><li>To make someone feel sexy about there selves </li></ul><ul><li>Messages sent as a joke or to be funny </li></ul>

National Sexting Statistics <ul><li>15% of teenagers who send sets say they only sent them to a friend </li></ul><ul><li>48% of teens say they received such messages </li></ul><ul><li>71% of teen girls and 67% of teen boys sent set only to there boyfriend or girlfriend </li></ul><ul><li>44% of teens say they forwarded a message to an unintended recipient </li></ul><ul><li>36% of teens say that it is common to receive a sext that was not intended </li></ul>

Sexting Consequences <ul><li>Under law it is illegal for someone to encourage anyone under 18 to pose nude </li></ul><ul><li>Illegal for anyone to knowingly send out or forward a nude photograph of a minor </li></ul><ul><li>It is also illegal for anyone to possess nude photographs of a minor </li></ul><ul><li>Sending harmful or obscene matter to a minor is also illegal </li></ul>
  6. 6. Rationale <ul><li>In the book “Twisted” by Laurie Halse Anderson one of the topics in the book is “Teen Image”. </li></ul><ul><li>Jay and I made a survey about teen image and sexting. </li></ul><ul><li>We surveyed 20 students and our results showed that about 35% of teens Sext. </li></ul>

Our Statistics <ul><li>We surveyed 20 students male and female at West Seneca West Senior High School. </li></ul><ul><li>65% of students believe that the media has too many sexual images </li></ul><ul><li>75% have been stereotyped </li></ul><ul><li>5% think they dress to sexually </li></ul><ul><li>30% say the way there dressed is influenced by the media </li></ul><ul><li>35% have worn clothes to revealing that made them too uncomfortable </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>40% sent nude pictures of themselves </li></ul><ul><li>60% received sext from some else </li></ul><ul><li>10% have forwarded a sext message </li></ul><ul><li>15% have felt pressure to sext </li></ul><ul><li>Only 5% have regretted sending a sext </li></ul><ul><li>35% of those who sexted have sent a sext while under the influence of drugs </li></ul>

Analysis <ul><li>We found that our results were similar too the national statistics that we researched </li></ul><ul><li>This may indicate that the students at West Senior are related to the teenagers in the nation regarding sexting. </li></ul><ul><li>The resulting similarities were surprising </li></ul>
