One of a leaders most important responsibilities is selecting and training new leaders. Leaders need to know how to recognize the right leadership candidates and test to ensure they will be able to step into the new position.

2. Communication with and through subordinate leaders.
When a leader is responsible for other leaders, communication becomes even more crucial to success. Communication isn’t just about passing information, but also supporting the position of subordinate leaders.

3. Needs and motivation.
Understanding human needs is one of the most important aspects of leadership. When a leader understands the needs of their followers, they are ready to move to motivation. This is a subject that is often misunderstood. Even great leaders can’t motivate followers, but they can enable their follower’s own motivation.

4. Delegating responsibility.
No one can do everything, but allowing someone else to take control of something for which the leader is ultimately responsible can be a scary experience. Successful leaders learn how to delegate responsibility while helping others grow.

5. Problem solving and decision making.
These are two areas that often cause leaders the most difficulty. The crush of everyday responsibilities often cause leaders to push problems down the road rather than dealing with them or make hasty decisions. There are simple templates that make the problem solving and decision making process easier.

6. Introduction to strategic planning.
Leaders are most successful when they have a plan that everyone knows and can follow. Strategic planning doesn’t have to be hard or complex. In fact, simpler is better!
