When all leaders in the organization support a leadership development program, and it becomes part of the organization’s leadership culture, the results will be

- Fewer EEO complaints
- Improved customer service
- Greater efficiency and a higher profit margin.

The first stage of the program is to train managers in the skills of basic leadership
- Knowing themselves and their strengths and weaknesses
- Understand leadership theories and styles
- Time management
- Interpersonal relationships
- Problem solving and decision making

The next stage is for leaders who are responsible for larger teams and other leaders. They were good first-line managers, but now require more knowledge and skill in the areas of
- Finding and developing new leaders
- Communicating with and through subordinate leaders
- Needs and motivation
- Delegation and leading teams
- Problem Solving and Decision making
- Introduction to strategic planning.

The third stage is for senior leaders. Executives still lead individual followers but also have a much larger responsibility for the organization as a whole.
These leaders need to develop skills in leading large organizations and getting the most from their subordinate leaders. They will most likely have expertise in one or two facets of the organization but will need training on many other aspects of their responsibility. This training must be highly targeting to each executive’s needs.


These three stages of leadership development are a continual process and must be a recognized part of the organization’s culture.
