  1. 1. Youth Empowerment Through Arts and Media YETAM Quick facts: Country: Kenya, Cameroon, Mozambique Project duration: 2010-2011 People involved: Directly 450 youth trained. Thousands of students, artists and teachers. Funding: Ministry of Foreign Affairs Finland In YETAM project African youth are trained to use digital technology, social media and arts to voice their opinions. Youth can thus tell about matters close to them and try to create sustainable changes in the society as well as create awareness e.g. on gender inequality. Short video documentaries, photos and stories produced by the participating youth are an excellent way to create a positive social change in their communities.
  2. 2. Why ICT and media <ul><li>Mobile phones and internet are available for the vast majority of people. What we have been missing are the channels for the global youth, especially in most remote and resoure poor places to express themselves for wider audience nationally and globally. Thus, hardening youth to influence desicion making and oppotunity creation for their future. </li></ul><ul><li>We are committed to create these channels via media including digital video cameras, computers, editing software and social media . Youth can use their creativity and also increase their capacity for their future work life. Material is published via web by the youth helping them collaborate across local communities, country boundaries and influence decision makers in different parts of the world. </li></ul>www.plan.fi/ict4d
