  • What’s the Next Move?
    • Can future events be predicted?
  • Relative Velocity
    • We will find out:
    • That 2 objects will be on a collision course when their relative velocities points along a line joining them
    • How to work this out
    • How to add vectors by adding ‘tip to tail’
  • Relative Velocity What happens when… A cricketer catches a ball? You see another plane out of your plane’s window? Will it hit us?
  • Relative Velocity
    • On a sheet of graph paper draw a plane in the top right hand corner…
    • Draw a vector to represent 200m/s velocity
    • Draw another plane at a random angle relative to the original plane (the are both aiming for the same corner of the paper)
    • Label this with a vector of 200m/s too
    Will they collide?
  • Relative Velocity
    • Subtract the velocity of one of the planes from each plane by drawing the same magnitude vector in the opposite direction
    These will cancel out
  • Relative Velocity
    • Add the vectors ‘tip to tail’
    • See if the resultant velocity hits your plane
    • If it does, take evasive action!!!!!
