  • The Presentation of the King Matthew 21:1-11
  • Behold your King• Jesus knew he was about to die• He still entered Jerusalem• He deliberately fulfilled scripture• He seems to have waited for the right moment• He is saying ‘here I am’
  • Behold your Messiah• Jesus God’s chosen Messiah• He is the ‘Son of David’• He is ‘the Prophet’• Anybody could have seen the truth• The two crowds meet
  • Behold your Prince of Peace• Palm branches were used in victory parades• “On the twenty-third day of the second month, in the year 171, there was a great celebration in the city because this terrible threat to the security of Israel had come to an end. Simon and his men entered the fort singing hymns of praise and thanksgiving, while carrying palm branches and playing harps, cymbals, and lyres.” (1 Maccabees 13:51)• Jesus rides the colt of a donkey• What a procession• What a King
  • Behold your God• “You did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you” (Luke 19:44)• “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” (John 1:10-11)• Praise was the only appropriate response• The adoration of the crowd infuriated some• “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:40)
  • Behold your Saviour• Hosanna means ‘save’• He is the King, the Prophet, the Messiah, the Prince of Peace, he is God the Son• He is also the Saviour• He brings salvation• He is about to die• For the joy set before him
