  • GO THROUGH THIS SLIDE VERY SLOWLY. Clearing: Same look with this architecture – with readers connecting to the RFID network which communicates with RFID tags. RFID applications run in a similar architecture – distributed fat readers as opposed to access points. Same transition. Instead of devices, there are tags. RFID tag – talking bar code. We invented the bar code, now we’re doing it again in an open standards environment. But where am I going with the connection? Instead of building separate networks, we’re collapsing them to create RF Switching. They will merge together. Click Now the switch is still in the middle. But it connects out to the readers which speak to the tags, and it connects to the ports which still speak to the mobile units. Migrating to an RF Switching domain. Now RFID can also experience the scalability, management, and security we were able to create with 802.11. Like we created 802.11, we created the bar code. We understand this space in the same way. By combining and collapsing the two environments, by bridging the gap between 802.11 and RFID, the possibilities are endless. Transition: Let me give you an example. Fixed Mobile Convergence for example. Large percentage (24%) of cell phone calls are made within an enterprise – those charges all run through a carrier. Fixed mobile convergence with dual-mode VoIP phones (already being manufactured by several handset vendors) – will be able to switch back and forth seamlessly between the wireless network and the carrier when the user is out of range. The switching architecture will be able to handle that convergence – and deliver carrier-independent communication. The next area I want to talk briefly about is WiMax. Supporting cellular broadband/WAN Connectivity and bridge Wi-Fi units in a LAN. Then there’s Mesh… Mesh is the extension cord of the network. Deploying Wi-Fi over large coverage areas – college campuses, manufacturing plants, and even metro areas. Integrating within the wireless switching platform.
