IT is not only the fastest changing industry ever created, it is the first to permeate every corner of global commerce, trading and our non-working lives. Most experience this through new devices, interfaces, facilities and working practices. For example: two years ago there were no iPads, today there are over 40M, and they are changing the nature of the workplace.
The key implications for industry are: creativity, capabilities and resources are migrating to the edge; personal computing has become personal empowerment; employment is increasingly transient; the distributed wins over the concentrated; need to know is being replaced by need to share.
The next big change and challenge is The Cloud – and it is as if Henry Ford got into computing - it is the industrialisation of IT - and could be the most powerful tool for amplifying human ability.
