On August 2, 2011, delegates to the United Nations Youth Assembly sponsored by PepsiCo ’s Latin America and Asia, Middle East, Africa Sectors visited PepsiCo Global Headquarters in Purchase, New York, USA

PepsiCo Sr. Director of Sustainable Development, Dan Bena, urges the delegates to keep values and integrity core to what they do as future leaders of the world.

Co-founder of PepsiCorps, Emily Kiely, tells the delegates about the new one-month sabbatical program for employees to use their skills in service to broader society.

… followed by a tour of the PepsiCo Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens. Cultural diversity is an important part of the United Nations Youth Assembly guiding principles.

On August 4 th Luis Montoya, President PepsiCo Latin American Beverages, spoke to over 300 youth on a plenary session about Leadership for Development and launched Eco-Challenge 3.0

During the PepsiCo sponsored lunch, Latin American and Arab delegates had the opportunity to talk one on one with Luis Montoya, President PepsiCo Latin America Beverages.

Then, on August 4th, 2011, the PepsiCo delegates were joined by 200 more youth ambassadors for an evening cruise around New York City and to the Statue of Liberty sponsored by PepsiCo Latin America.

Dinner on the boat was a great way for the delegates to network with each other and share stories of their national culture.

The delegates from Africa shared stories of traditional dress from various African countries, and performed a dramatic skit (above) of a king whose kingdom was in danger of war.

The delegates from Korea shared a traditional custom which mixes elements of dance, music, and martial arts.

The delegates from the Arab world shared one of the most popular Arab folk dances “Dabke” which in Arabic means "stamping of the feet." The dance is performed in weddings and joyous ceremonies in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, the Palestinian Territories, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Syria and other countries.

PepsiCo Arab youth delegation at the UN Youth Assembly session entitled “ The Arab Spring and Social Media: Implications for the Future” . Panelists shared their first hand experiences in Egypt and Tunisia during recent uprisings. They told us what the future will look like for their region in years to come and how they have the power to drive social change using social and new forms of media as tools for empowerment.
