  • Mrs K Evans 1   Word  Processing     A  word  processed  document  can  contain  many  formatting  features.    Some  of  the   more   advanced   features   are   really   DTP   (desktop   publishing)   features   and   are   better  kept  to  be  used  in  a  DTP  package.    Such  advance  features  would  include  –       • Text  frames   • Columns   • Fancy  text   • Gridlines     However  there  are  also  a  lot  of  advanced  word  processing  tools  that  you  may  not   realise  are  there.     Tool   Use   Styles   Heading  styles  are  later  used  for  TOC   TOC   A  table  of  contents  can  be  auto  generated  if  heading  styles  are   used.   Footnote   A  note  at  the  bottom  of  the  page   Endnote   A  note  at  the  end  of  the  document.     1. Images  should  always  be  saved   and  inserted,  not  copied  and  pasted   2. Use  the  format  picture  options   to  wrap  text1   3. You  can  edit  the  image  within   some  word  processing  packages               Most  of  the  text  formatting  options  in  word  processing  packages  use  the  same   icons  across  all  packages.    You  should  use  features  like  bold,  italic  and  underline   for  emphasis  only.    There  are  additional  options  such  as  highlighters,  superscript   and  subscript.     When  you  type  a  document  you  should  use  a  size  12,  plain,  black  font  0  keep  the   bigger  sizes,  fancy  fonts  and  colours  for  DTP  work.    Use  a  bigger  size,  around  18   or  20pt  for  titles.    Us  an  emphasis  for  sub  headings.                                                                                                                   1  Wrap  text  option  controls  how  the  picture  sits  within  the  text  on  your  page.
