  • 1. Cavan Social Media • Research shows that internet users continue to spend more time with social media sites than any other type of site. • I suspect that much of this interaction takes place on mobile devices
  • 2. Twitter Cavan were one of the first Counties to utilise social media to communicate with the public @cavancoco Over 2,500 followers Following over 2,000 accounts
  • 3. Facebook https://www.facebook.com/cavancoco More graphical and can combine audio, video, images and text Arts, Library, Museum, Access Cavan, Sports Partnership etc
  • 4. LinkedIn LinkedIn is a social networking website for people in professional occupations Allows users to maintain a list of contact details of people with whom they have some level of relationship LinkedIn also supports the formation of interest groups

  • 7. YouTube YouTube is now part of Google+ https://plus.google.com/u/0/10 8330932605934586314/about A limited number of video clips relating to the Council's activities

Next Steps • LGER - Business case for the use of Social Media – A set of social media usage policies guidelines and recommendations for LAs and their Councillors, staff and agents – a set of recommendations for internal and cross- organisational collaboration and team work using social technologies – The other deliverables are more long term and relate to things like social media metrics, measuring the value of social media interactions and enabling comparisons between different LAs
