    • News October 20th, 2011 Chinese want to grow vegetables widely in Romania A group of Chinese investors in Anhui Province intends to buy or lease farmland in southern Romania to invest in production and processing of vegetables and fruit, said on Thursday President Romanian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Gabriel Ghelmegeanu. "A delegation of five people, led by Chairman of the Committee of Agriculture of Anhui Province, is in Romania to visit agricultural areas south of the country and find investment opportunities in agriculture and food industry in Romania, especially in the vegetable and fruit. The delegation members are representatives of large companies in Anhui Province in the sectors of processing, pomiculture, wine, vegetables and fruits", said the head of the Romanian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce. According to him, Chinese investors want to invest the entire chain, from production to processing and marketing, for this reason are interested in buying agricultural land to lease or to create joint venture. "Theyre more interested in agricultural areas of the south, as in the case of investments will have a production and processing base close to a metropolis. During Thursday the Chinese delegation will meet the Ministry of Agriculture, and later will visit the wholesale market in Bucharest and other main markets like Obor market and fruit and vegetables markets near Bucharest. Friday, the Chinese delegation will be in Giurgiu Free Zone, where will meet with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and the people in the area to see investment opportunities", said President of the Romanian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Gabriel Ghelmegeanu. Anhui Province in China has nearly 67 million inhabitants, covers an area of 13,96 hectares and is one of the main vegetable pools in China and one of the largest grain producers. Earlier this week, Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabără, met with Vice-President of China National Agricultural Development Group Corp., Liu Lianjun, the two officials discussing business opportunities the Chinese company can find in Romania in the field crop, fisheries, research and farming. The Chinese side has shown interest in Canal Siret – Bărăgan Project and the possibility to import as many varieties of wine from Romania. China National Agricultural Development Group Corp. has 16 branches in 14 different countries worldwide and 80 branches in China.
