Background

300,000 sq ft refurbishment of Bush House in

The detail:
The construction site was located within a largely
residential area, with a housing estate running
along one side. VPS were requested to carry
out a site survey and make recommendations to
secure and protect. The survey took into account
the location, the crime index for the area, the
perimeter, and the internal site dynamics. The
recommendation included the installation of
our award winning SmartTower CCTV system, it
pairs with a number of wireless motion activated
sensors around the site, then emits white light
and audible warnings when triggered. In addition
a SmartAlarm Gold System was installed on site,
with Verifeye Visual camera sensors.
When alarmed with the additional detector units,
the site achieves a ‘lock-down’ status. In the event
of an alarm, the monitoring station will view
the detected area and act accordingly by white
lighting the area, carrying out a vocal warning and
calling the Police using Level 1 response in the
event of a crime taking place.
Since the installation, no incidents of intruders
have occurred or been reported. Paul Cameron,
the VPS account manager who managed the
contract with ISG says about the Letchworth site:
“We’ve worked with ISG on other projects in the
UK such as Tesco store developments, so it was
good to support them on this construction site
for a care home and demonstrate the benefits
of the SmartTower CCTV system. This was built
by our in-house innovation centre, and designed
around our customers’ requirements on the basis
of discussions and feedback from them. It can
work without an external power source and can
therefore be deployed rapidly, regardless of the
environment. Launched in the UK this year, the
SmartTower CCTV has already been recognised
with two industry prizes and just been selected
as a finalist for the IFSEC Security Excellence
Awards.”

“Thinking site security as an expense that
can be saved from an overall project budget is
a common strategy but can be a false economy.
The idea is that it would be cheaper to pay out
losses from theft or vandalism, than to rent in a
security system. The reality is that approach rarely
adds up. Especially nowadays when there are
technological solutions today that can complement
security guards or even remove the need for them
altogether.
