    2. Scanning for ThreatsHow to Begin a Scan with Identity PatrolIdentity Patrol has been designed to be as user friendly as possible.  The program has an easy to use navigation system, and can perform a full deep scan with just one click.  To get started, use the button shown on the screen shot below.CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION
    3. The Scanning ProcessIdentity Patrol will deep scan your computer for threats, and depending on how many programs and files on you have on your computer, this process could take up to 20 minutes to complete and should not be interrupted for best detection results.   The status bar at the bottom of the screen will show you what areas of your computer the program is currently scanning and the DEEP SCAN process will take the longest as this is when Identity Patrol examines the sub files and folders that other spyware programs ignore - which is exactly why malware likes to hide there as most programs can't detect them there.
    4. Removing the ThreatsOnce Identity Patrol has completed the scan, it will show you a complete list of all of the threats the program has detected.  You can either remove all of the threats, or you can choose to remove only selected items by unchecking the box beside the threat.   Once you have decided which threats to remove, click the REMOVE IDENTITY THREATS NOW box and they will be deleted from your system.  NOTE:  Identity Patrol will not remove the found threats until the program has been unlocked with a purchased serial number.  To make this purchase, you will need to go to our eStore located here.
    5. Identity DefenderIdentity Patrol has been designed to protect your computer from any type of attempt to change your computer settings without your knowledge.  Browser Hijacking has become a major problem on the web and involves a rogue software script that changes your home page and other browser settings.  Identity Defender prevents any attempt from a hijacker to take control of your computer.   To access your Identity Defender settings, click the ID Defender button on the left hand side menu.
    6. This will bring up the Identity Defender control panel that will look like this screen shot below.
    7. Setting Your Home PageIdentity Patrol will automatically scan  for your default home settings.  If you want to change your settings to another address besides your defaul, you will need to click the CHANGE RESTORE SETTINGS TO A NEW URL to set your own personal preference. ( shown in screen shot below )     If there is any attempt to change your home page settings by another program, it not only will in most cases prevent the attack, but it will ensure that the proper settings are restored. If the screen shot above, you can see the current home page settings for the sample system.
    8. Using the Alerts Feature ( Shown Below ) Identity Patrol will protect your system from attempts to change your settings in your system memory files, as well as any suspected hijack attempts.  It will also alert you if an attempt is made to download with out your knowledge any suspicious Active X components, and will alert you to any programs that are attempting to install themselves or access your computer when you turn it on or reboot it.   We  recommend that you leave all of these four boxes checked.
    9. Browser Hijacker Restoration In the case of a rogue program hijacks your broswer, Identity Patrol will automatically restore all of your settings to where you want them.   The below screen shot shows how Identity Patrol detects your current URL settings for programs such as your start page, your home page, search settings and error pages.  If you need to restore your settings in the aftermath of a browser hijacker attempt, you can do so by clicking the RESTORE button.
