  • A double murder in a quiet Massachusetts town. A wealthy businessman and his wife are brutally axed to death. Lizzie Borden, the daughter of the 2 murder victims, is accused of the crime. You’re the writer assigned to investigate the case and write an essay profiling Lizzie. When you are ready to begin your investigation, click on the Play button.
  • Well, what’s your first step? Before putting anything down on paper, a good investigator starts by uncovering the facts—the who, what, when, where, and why. Another vital skill is understanding the difference between facts and opinions. You will use this skill as your sift through the evidence in this case. You’ll also learn the characteristics of a good profile essay and formulate an opinion of the alleged murderer in order to write an effective this statement. This is your mission and challenge. The buttons below allow you to rewind, play, go back, or go forward. If at any time you want to stop the lesson, click on the exit button.
  • This course is divided into 4 modules. The first module on the Lizzie Borden Case should be completed first. It will give you information about the murders by watching a TV documentary and reading a selection from a history textbook. This section should take about 15 minutes to complete.
