  • 1. A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.
  • 2. You should read books like you take medicine, by advice, and not by advertisement.
  • 3. The books that the world calls immoral are the books that show the world its own shame.
  • 4. Books are divided into two classes, the books of the hour and the books of all time.
