GOAL:    broaden  community  parCcipaCon   •  MulCple  presentaCons  by  Complete  Streets  instructors   –  PresentaCons  to  County  and  City  Councils   –  Public  Planning  seminar   –  Luncheon  presentaCon  to  the  Wasatch  Front  Regional   Council  (MPO)  -­‐-­‐  elected  public  officials  and  staff

GOAL:    broaden  community  parCcipaCon  RESULT:    complete  streets  seminars  and  working  groups  •  Women  in  TransportaCon  (WTS)  -­‐-­‐  bicycle  planning  workshops  •  UDOT  and  UTA:  joint  regional  study  to  improve  acCve   transportaCon  access  to  public  transit  •  WFRC  (regional  MPO)  –  created  an  AcCve  TransportaCon   Commi<ee  incorporaCng  Complete  Streets  vision   Complete  Streets  is  now  a  part  of  community  dialogue  and  ciCzen   group  discussions  relaCng  to  transportaCon  
  • 6. Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Committee  EffecCve  tools  and  strategies:  •  Financial  and  logisCcal  support  from  Mayor’s  Office  –  our   own  budget  •  Staff  a<endance  from  Planning,  Engineering,  Parks  &   RecreaCon,  Police  and  Mayor’s  Office  
  • 7. Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory CommitteeEffecCve  tools  and  strategies:  •  Establish  posiCve  working  relaConship  with  Public  Works  •  A<end  regional  transportaCon  meeCngs:    State  TransportaCon   Commission,  MPO,  City  and  County  Councils  •  Develop  familiarity  with  the  planning  process,  terminology,    etc.  •  IdenCfy  strategic  transportaCon  projects  in  the  planning  stage  •  Know  the  planners  and  decision  makers  •  Engage  other  support  groups  –  health  and  educaCon/schools

EffecCve  tools  and  strategies:  •  Organize  study  tour/field  trip  for  elected  officials  and  staff  •  Find  champions:       –  Public  Works  Director     –  Commi<ee  members  •  ParCcipate  as  a  stakeholder  in  project  planning  •  Schedule  meeCngs  with  elected  officials  •  ParCcipate  in  community/neighborhood  council  meeCngs  •  Write  arCcles  for  newspaper  editorial  page

Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Committee   ACCOMPLISHMENTS     Salt  Lake  County  acCons  in  2012  •  Created  bicycle  transportaCon  planning  coordinator  posiCon  •  Approved  budget  funding  bicycle  transportaCon  improvements  •  Developed  County-­‐wide  Bicycle  Best  PracCces  manual  •  Organized  study  tour  for  public  officials  to  Boulder,  Colorado  •  Developing  a  Bicycle  Infrastructure  ImplementaCon  Plan
