  • Mesopotamian Job Specilization

    1. 1. Job Specialization In Mesopotamia By Cole, Mehana, and Nick
    2. 2. What is job specialization? Job specialization is when you focus on one job instead of doing every job at once. So, if youdecided to specialize in being a doctor, you would focus on being a doctor. You wouldn’t also be a police officer, or a dentist.
    3. 3. Pottery One of the most popular jobs in Ancient Mesopotamia was making pottery. Clay containers were used to transport and hold food and other goods.People dug up clay from the river banks and baked the clay. Pottery was better then stone containers because it was lighter and easier to make.Soon the Mesopotamians discovered that they could use molds to instead of make each container by hand. After that the pottery wheel was made.
    4. 4. Weaving Ancient weavers used loom weights. These were pieces ofstone with holes in them. Cloth was tied between the stones,in the holes, which made it easer to hold the cloth still while weaving. Loom weights have been found all over Ancient Mesopotamia. These are loom weights.
    5. 5. TeachersTeachers taught children, usually boys, from richfamilies. They were taught to read their language, which was similar to pictographs.
    6. 6. Astronomers Astronomers studied the stars and constellations. Mesopotamians were the first to name the planets and constellations. They were also the first to document meteors, eclipses and comets. Some Ancient Mesopotamian astronomers believed that each planet represented a different god.
    7. 7. FarmingFarmers in Ancient Mesopotamia were very important, asthey provided food for the people. Farmers in Mesopotamiainvented irrigation. This is when trenches are built to get water to dry places. Irrigation was important because it allowed farmers to grow more crops, more quickly. Irrigation
    8. 8. BankingMesopotamians were the first to put all of their money and valuable in one place, and were the first to use interest.
    9. 9. Why is job specialization good? Different jobs allow for people to develop different technology. Different people can have different jobs, instead of everyone doing the same thing. You can establish “classes of people.” This is where some people have authority over each other.
