KNOWLEDGE WORKERS AND TELECOMMUTING A larger proportion of knowledge workers has increased the popularity of telecommuting/telework: working away from the office. TODAY, TELECOMMUTING INCLUDES: Part-time telework. (Scheduled time in the office, scheduled time away) Traditional full-time. (5-days-a-week telecommuting) Flexible work. (Nonscheduled or last-minute telework) THE STATE OF TELECOMMUTING* WHO CAN TELECOMMUTE? of surveyed workers say their organization offers telecommuting options. 80% say they telecommute. 70% Of those who don’t, a preference for office work was the most common reason cited (56%). non-telecommuters simply like working in an office. prefer the structure of an office. 38% say they’d be willing to give up office perks like snacks and free parking in exchange for the ability to telecommute. WHAT DOES TELECOMMUTING LOOK LIKE? Most teleworkers work remotely just 1 day per week and are in the office the rest of the workweek.
