HotSpot - Unit 6 GRAMMAR PAST SIMPLE X PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE PAST SIMPLE We use the “present perfect simple” to talk about something that has happened in a recent past. We can use “just”. To ask about something that has just happened, or to give details, we use the “past simple”. Ex.: I’ve just lost my mobile phone. Ex.: Where did you lose it? I had it this morning, it was in the car.

Pleased = (contente). Full = (cheio). Meal = (refeição). Purse = (bolsa ou carteira de mulher). VOCABULARY – Unit 7        EXERCISES 1. Write sentences with the present perfect. Use the prompts. 2. Can you found who looks...? Label the pictures. Put up the presents. Decorate the cake. Put away the toys. Blow up the balloons. Vacuum the carpet. Wrap the presents. Write sentences with “just”. a) (Watch TV) b) (Play tennis) _________________________________ _________________________________ HotSpot - Unit 7 GRAMMAR PRESENT PERFECT WITH “JUST”, “ALREALDY” AND “YET” We use “just” to talk about something that is very recently happened. We put “just” after the present perfect. Ex.: I’ve just eaten an apple. We use “already” to talk about something that we had done. We put “already” after the present perfect. Ex.: Martha has already decorated the cake. We use “yet” to talk about something that we don’t do until the moment, but that we planned to do later. Generally, we use in negative sentences. Ex.: Rudolph hasn’t blown up the balloons yet. VOCABULARY     Nearly = (quase). Wrap = (embrulhar). Fudge = (doce de leite). Lit = past simple/ past participle of “light”.

Ex.: I have lived in this house for ten years. We use “since” with the present perfect simple to talk about a specific point in time. Ex.: I have lived in this house since 1998. JUST/ ALREADY/ YET Just = a very short while before now. Ex.: I’ve just seen Tom Cruise at the airport. Already = at some time before now. Ex.: Mum’s already visited China three times. Yet = until now. Ex.: I haven’t been to many foreign countries yet.

We use “ever” in questions. Ex.: Have you ever worn a Mexican hat? We use never in positive sentences, but talking about something that is negative. Ex.: I’ve never been to Germany at Christmas. PRESENT PERFECT VS PAST SIMPLE

HotSpot – Unit 9 GRAMMAR FIRST CONDITIONAL Use  Ex.: We use the “first conditional” to talk about a situation (or event) present or future that can happen (it’s possible). If it rains, I will stay at home. Form IF + PRESENT SIMPLE + WILL/ WON’T + INFITIVE CONDITION + CONSEQUENCE Ex.: If I do my homework, I will stay at home. If it rains, I will be happy. I will be happy if it rains. (We don’t use coma when the condition comes after the consequence).  In the “first conditional” we can use “unless” in the place of “if”. Ex.: I will go at the park unless it rains. If = (se). Unless = if not (a não ser que). VOCABULARY   Unless = (a não ser que). Bold = (negrito, ousado).
