  • 2. We are Artifactscurrently recoveredapproximately from 9,00012’ down in the years agowell and are Pre-recovering bits 1790of glass andpottery dating wellfrom the 20thcenturyoccupation ofthe mansion.
  • 3. A Koens-Crispin projectile point fashioned from metarhyolitedated to the Transitional Archaic Period, about 4,000 years ago shown in situ.Removal of the prehistoric soils surrounding the well shaft is necessary beforewe can begin to safely dismantle the well.
  • 4. Excavations at Fort Hunter serve as both an archaeologicalinvestigation focused on finding evidence of the French &Indian War stockade and as a public outreach program.Visitors to the mansion frequently stop to ask questions andview the archaeology in progress. Volunteers rotate in andout during the six week period assisting with excavations ,mapping and screening.
