Rm. 301, THE NATIONAL LIBRARY BUILDING, T.M. KALAW ST., ERMITA MANILA 1000, PHILIPPINES http://sites.google.com/site/paarlonlineorg 12 May 2014 Dear Colleagues: RDA offers libraries the potential to change significantly on how bibliographic data is created and used. Thus, in 2012, the PRC-PRB for Librarians issued Resolution No. 4, Series of 2012 prescribing the adoption of the International Cataloging Principles and RDA as the official cataloging standard for Philippine libraries. Then in 2013, PAARL in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) – National Committee on Library and Information Services (NCLIS), National Library of the Philippines and the National Committee on Resource Description and Access (NCRDA) conducted a series of training workshops in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao aiming to give an overview on RDA, emphasizing on the core elements in RDA and other conceptual/theoretical foundation of the new standard as well as came up with the standardized Resource Description and Access for Philippine Libraries and Information Centers. Therefore, this year’s RDA National Training is focused on cascading the RDA Standard for Philippine Libraries and Information Centers through a two-day Public Consultation and Training Workshop on RDA Policy and Action Plan for Philippine Libraries to be held at the Crown Legacy Hotel, Kisad Road, Baguio City on June 26-27, 2014. This activity aims to: (1) provide a nationwide public consultation for the full adaptation and implementation of the National Policy on Resource Description and Access for Filipiniana Materials/Resources among different types of libraries, museums and archives; (2) develop an action plan for RDA implementation in the country; and (3) conduct a hands-on training/workshop on the application of the proposed policies and standard. Thus, we have invited the following as resource persons with their topics: 1. RDA for Philippine Libraries : Proposed Guidelines and Standard by Mrs. Mila M. Ramos 2. MARC 21 : Bibliographic and Authority Data Format by Ms. Corazon M. Nera 3. Recording Attributes of Manifestation of Items: A Workshop by Ms. Susan O. Pador 4. Identifying Persons, Families & Corporate Bodies : A Workshop on Constructing Access Points (Creators and Contributors) by Prof. Ruben P. Marasigan 4. Identifying Works & Expression : A Workshop on Constructing Access Points (Preferred Title) by Ana Maria B. Fresnido 6. Public Consultation in the Implementation of Cataloging Policy Statement for Filipiniana Resources by Ms. Corazon M. Nera Librarians, catalogers, library administrators and faculty of LIS who have had training/orientation/background on RDA are invited to participate in this training.
