This is an updated paper on four ways to create original visuals that can be used on Pinterest to get you more followers and traffic, more search engine rankings and more visibility for your own website or business. Further, these techniques are useful on other social media platforms as well.

Investigating these simple techniques took more time to master than I had anticipated, so there has been a huge gap in time since the text document was first uploaded and this completed document finalized. Please forgive the gap, but really exploring many other recommended tactics on my MacBook Air did not work the way I was told it would and I didn't want to recommend to others what I couldn't manage myself.

  1. 1.     HOW-‐TO  CREATE  ORIGINAL  VISUALS  FOR  PINTEREST                                    AND  WHY  THATS  A  GOOD  IDEA!                                                                                                      BY  MYRNA  GREENHUT      WWW.  P-‐O-‐P-‐S.com

  3. 3.    Donkeys are not involved in Internet pinningPinning is all the rage. No not that kind!Todays pinning is no blindfolded kissing game when you pin the tail on thedonkey close to where the tail belongs.Just a quick recap: Pinterest is one of the fasting growing social mediaplatforms of all times. It currently has nearly five million users, and israpidly increasing its participants. Nearly 1.5 million unique users visitPinterest daily, spending an average of 15 minutes a day on the site.Check your email, and the number of webinars devoted to pinning and thenumber of books on Kindle about the Pinterest platform are many. Giventhey have recently opened their doors to everyone, you should get on thebandwagon NOW while Pinterest still has cachet and before anotherprogram comes along to sweep it into the done, finished category. The New Type of PinningAs Beth Hayden states: Pinterest is fast becoming a heavy hittiingmarketing tool for brands and businesses … like yours. If you are not using this vastly popular site to send traffic to your blog orwebsite then you are missing out.As with all good social media sites, the idea is to get to know your audienceso that you can be counted on with eye pleasing, good information andentertaining quips that help them resolve their own problems.
  4. 4. Technically speaking, the site leaves it up to you to get clearance to repostany graphics or pins from others, even though you are basically sendingthem traffic through your repins. (Yup, Ive read that is still an issue inmost instances, though not a likely problem, as long as the credit goes tothe original source for the item.)Still, one of the things that you can do to minimize this problem and stillfeel Pinterest is worthy of your time is to create original pins -- so at leastyou are benefitting from this high-trafficked site with more of your ownwebsite traffic, more potential sales and a higher ROI for your efforts tofollow. Are you aware of how easy it is to create original pins? Original photo with text and watermark overlay1. Create Your Own Pins With PhotosYou are paying gazillion dollars a month to some smart phone provider, sowhy not use the photo app to get the shot you want and show it off onPinterest?Facebook has proven that more people engage with visual images than withjust conversation, so why not give them what they want?
  5. 5. 2. Create Your Own Pins With WordsTweet your own profound words from your press releases. Derek Halpernadvocates that in your blog post template, the third item should be aTweetable phrase. (Your own words or those of the person you are writingabout.)But the best part is that you can make an image from these words ofwisdom and add them to a Pinterest board that is watermarked with yourown name or company URL.
  6. 6. 3. Create InfographicsDanZarellaadvisestall pinsformorerepins!
  7. 7. This is more fun than a pile of sand or finger painting – and you can informand entertain with this type of publicity. Write a headline about yourexpertise that answers a question your target audience is asking about. Then write some subheadings that further investigate the issue.Choose pictures/graphics that reflect on and illustratate theproblem/answer – and incorporate into the infographic.Watermark your graphic with your business email or personal emailaddress and you have an infographic.Dan Zarella of Hubspot fame suggests the taller the infographic, the morerepins you’ll achieve. He spends time researching this, so he is probablyright. In my humble opinion, try to make your graphic text and image largeenough so that people can read it at a glance. If you have to work too hardto read it, it might get repinned but the info might never get implemented.
  8. 8. 4. SlideShareCover  plus  blog  posts  or  articles  =  a  Slide  Share  presentation  • • Convert a single blog post or a few blog posts on a single topic to a pdf, slap on a cover and add to Slide Share thereafter.• • Make a board of Slide Share pins on the same topic. Ask your followers to submit their Slide Share to your board. It’s great for joint ventures.Your Turn Tell us about some methods for original pins you have used with success inthe comments. And show them off in the Comments section.
