2. • Pictures 1 and 2 use the code and conventions
of a thriller as they challenge the audience.
This is done as we can there are two similar
shots which differentiate simply by the order
of props. The fact that no extra character is
seen entering the room creates suspense and
mystery adding to the psychological theme of
the opening sequence.

3. • Picture 3 captivates a key element of a horror
thriller. This screenshot captures a innocent
child’s doll in a twisted disturbed way, done
simply by the use of dramatic lighting and odd
positioning. Additionally more suspense is
built as in screenshot 1 and 2 we cannot see the
mans face only his back, however in screenshot
3 his hands are revealed slightly teasing the
audience.

4. • Picture 4 is a shot taken in a hidden
perspective. This also adds to suspense,
mystery and the idea of being watched by
someone. Furthermore the fast pace of this
shot relates to the codes and conventions of
a action thriller which was one of our subgenres.

5. • Picture 5 takes on the code and conventions
of a thriller as seen in this shot the actor
interacts with the audience. This relates to
the code and conventions of a thriller as
involving the audience may affect the
intensity of their reactions and emotions.

6. • Picture 6 challenges the code and
conventions of a thriller genre as it displays
forms of editing that are specific to action
genres to enhance the effect. The free hand
filming effect highlights and exaggerates the
pace and movement in the action of an
action thriller.

7. • Picture 7 and 8 are shots that are part of the
code and conventions of a horror thriller as
these show isolation of body parts in order
to hide the identity of Mr Parkinson. Not
only is isolation a main element of these
shots but the lighting emphasises the
movement of Mr Parkinson's mouth and
eyes.

8. • Picture 9 again relates to the interactivity of
our opening sequence. The used of the hand
grabbing the camera creates an effect of Mr
Parkinson attacking the detective. This adds
to the themes and code & conventions of
psychological and mystery thrillers
