  • 1. SIPPO paves the way for Tara from Peru.Tara producers and manufacturers from Peru successfully access the European markets on a fast track. After an intense and guided preparation we were able to successfully make our first experience as an exhibitor at Food Ingredients Europe. Herbert Telge, President and General Manager, Molinos Asociados S.A.C. Peru – known for its rich biodiversity – offers a wide range of natural ingredients for the European food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals industries. The Perubiodiverso project was initiated in order to preserve this natural heritage and to make selected products accessible to European importers. Within the framework of this project, the companies Molinos Asociados and Somerex participated in a study tour to Vitafoods in Geneva in May 2011 in order to gain valuable first insights into European market requirements and know-how to approach European importers directly. Both companies mainly focus on Tara fruit derivatives which are commonly used as tannin for the leather industry, and now also as a thickener and stabiliser in the food industry. During the study tour, the companies became acquainted with business communication and made contacts with potential buyers from the food industry. A few months later, SIPPO organised a buying mission to Peru with European importers where Molinos Asociados and Somerex had one-to-one business meetings with the importers. Well prepared and with already established contacts from Vitafoods and the buying mission, the companies participated in the trade fair Food Ingredients in November 2011 in Paris. This was the first time they attended a European trade fair as exhibitors at the SIPPO Pavilion. Lots of new contacts and many promising business relations resulted from this fair participation. The companies also benefited from the Innovation Tours which highlighted major innovations at the trade fair. The products of Molinos Asociados and Somerex were also presented. After the successful trade fair participation, SIPPO will organise a further buying mission to Peru in 2012, and the two companies will once again exhibit at the SIPPO Pavilion at Health Ingredients 2012 in Frankfurt. We got involved with SIPPO when we realised the importance of showing foreign markets the various added-value products that derive from Tara.December 2011 Manuel Pardo, General Manager, Somerex S.A.SIPPOPhone +41 44 365 53 91, sippo@osec.ch www.sippo.ch
