Slide Transition: Because of complexity in IT infrastructure, organizations depend upon custom assembly.For decades now, companies have been buying various components -- such as servers, storage and all sorts of software -- from different vendors, assembling the pieces into custom systems, and hiring specialized IT staff to maintain them.
Slide Transition: Oracle’s strategy has always been to SIMPLIFY I.T. so customers can use technology for business innovation, not just for business as usual. Let’s discuss how we’re doing this.
Slide Transition: First, Oracle is simplifying I.T. by engineering hardware and software to work together, upending the longstanding industry practice of cobbling together different components.
Slide Transition: When we say that Oracle hardware and software is engineered to work together, this refers to our unique ability to offer customers a complete hardware and software stack, from applications through middleware and databases, and all the way down into servers and storage. Each of these layers—and all the products within the layers—have been designed and engineered to work together according to open standards. Oracle tests everything within a stack layer together– for example, between different applications, between different middleware suites, between various database products, and so on. Oracle also tests everything across stack layers, from applications all the way down to the servers and storage. So, applications are tested with middleware, middleware is tested with the database, the database is tested with the hardware … every layer is tested with every other layer.Oracle certifies the complete stack so that customers know which particular versions of software are designed to work together. For example, every major application that Oracle delivers, including Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft Enterprise, JD Edwards and Siebel CRM is certified with Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g . Database 11g Release 2 has been tested and certified with all of Oracle’s major applications, including Oracle Fusion Applications. Oracle packages our different technologies into standardized solutions, which customers can then deploy together.These complete solutions are designed to be upgraded effectively and efficiently together. And, the entire stack can be managed together, supported together and so on.
Slide Transition: Because we’re able to design our technology specifically for the stack and to fine tune the entire stack, we’re able to optimize performance overall and at every layer.This complete approach also allows us to design much greater reliability and security into the stack than the customer could achieve if they had to build it themselves.And because we have management tools that run through every layer, it’s also much easier to manage the stack and upgrade it over time. The net result for our customers is a dramatically lower cost of ownership.
Slide Transition: The third way Oracle simplifies I.T. is by engineering solutions that empower people to drive innovation and change.
Slide Transition: In addition, by designing Fusion Applications to support specific business roles, we were able to streamline many of the activities that innovation workers do. In fact, research confirms our own findings that innovation worker productivity can increase by 50% when companies apply technology more precisely, with solutions tailored to specific jobs or roles.* This role-based interface delivers all the information you need to take action, whether it’s what you need to know, what you need to do, how you get it done, or who can help you. Slide Transition: Because we built Fusion Applications natively on Fusion Middleware, we were able to take full advantage of the innovative technologies in Oracle’s middleware layer. Oracle Fusion Middleware is a complete family of application infrastructure which all run on the leading Cloud Application Foundation: Exalogic and WebLogic – including centralized Identity Management, Enterprise Management and unified development tools. All of these components are integrated using open standards to better connect Web, Social, Mobile and Business Applications to speed implementation and lower the cost of management and change. What Fusion Middleware ultimately provides is a foundation for innovation:Confidence in your ability to adapt and respond to change, Operational and strategic insight for better, more informed decisions, Agile and intelligent business applications and processes. Secure and rich connections with workers, teams and customers. Accelerated development and reduced IT costsLater in the presentation, you’ll hear about a customer using Fusion Middleware to deliver innovative services to its customers. There are many more examples of customers using Fusion Middleware to build innovative custom applications or deploy a common technology, whether it’s business intelligence, identity management or user experience, across Oracle Applications. All Oracle applications are certified on Fusion Middleware and many customers use Fusion Middleware with third-party applications to integrate, secure and extend those applications.
Slide Transition: Finally, the ultimate expression of hardware and software engineered to work together is Oracle’s engineered systems. By increasing the level of engineering and optimization in these systems, Oracle can deliver exponential performance increases and massively simplified deployment and management capabilities.
Slide Transition: The Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud were our first examples of engineered systems that include a complete package of servers, storage, networking, and software. Recently, we’ve introduced even more…Our goal as a company is to add value to our hardware systems to meet our customer’s diverse needs. We understand that no workloads are the same. So, we have created “purpose built” machines that are optimized to handle particular types of workloads really well–for example, if customers require database optimized, we offer Exadata; if they want optimized middleware, we offer Exalogic– and now, we offer Exalytics In-Memory Machine for handling analytics.On the other hand, there are customers who are looking to consolidate different workloads onto a single box. For example, a varied set of workloads with a system to run database, applications, some middleware and analytics. For these general purpose needs, we recently announced our SPARC SuperCluster.

Slide Transition: Finally, you have complete choice over how you want to deploy Oracle solutions. Deployment options include: Traditional on premise Your own private cloud – providing a shared, elastically scalable, secure environment – you may manage it yourself or have Oracle On Demand manage it for you. Public clouds – we now offer the Oracle Public Cloud (announced OpenWorld 2011), and we also enable customers to run on other public clouds. Hybrid clouds – you can mix these different deployment models in a hybrid approach.
