    4. Localization Importance of the Community initiative Community initiative is for the benefit of all members of that community The objective of the Community initiative is to ensure that there is a common base level of functionality available in the product. Everyone benefits from a community initiative as it means that there is no duplication of effort. The community localization is for everyone to share and benefit from. There are many ways that you can contribute to your community localization. The starting point has to be to contact your Community Localization Leader. Examples include: Helping with the translation • • Supporting modification and extension of the chart of accounts • Contributing a tax report 04_Localization_Richard_Morley.odp Page 4
    5. Localization Development: Extension Modules • An Extension Module is a piece of additional functionality that can be deployed optionally and independently on top of Openbravo ERP. • The experience of the user deploying modules is similar to that of Firefox plugins: you are able to browse a catalogue of modules, install, deploy and upgrade them directly from the Openbravo Module Management console. Users are also be able to uninstall modules. • A developer of an Extension Module is able to package and deliver a module independently from the rest of the Openbravo content, meaning that they are able to package modules with a delivery mechanism that only includes files and metadata that they are responsible for. Modules can be released with any license that is compatible with Openbravo Public License. Finally, the author of an Extension Module is able to indicate which versions of Openbravo are compatible with it and which other modules, if any, it depends on. The installation of an Extension Module validates that these dependencies are met. • Developers can define Packs as a collection of Extension Modules. Users can then install all the modules in the pack with a single action by installing the Pack. Since an Extension Module can be part of multiple Packs, this mechanism allows to preserve fine grained granularity of reuse of a module without sacrificing ease of deployment. 04_Localization_Richard_Morley.odp Page 5

    9. Localization Types of localization initiative Community initiative Strategic initiative by Openbravo Contracted agreement with a partner Sponsored development Where a localization is to be delivered through either contracted or sponsored development then the localization features will be SMART: – Specific – what is to be delivered is clearly described, both in terms of function and benefit – Measurable – the delivery itself should be demonstrable – Agreed – both Openbravo and any contracting partner work to eliminate uncertainty in the deliverable (either before of during the engagement) – Realistic – that both the organization and the community take a pragmatic view of the others resources and motivations – Time defined – that a performance date be an inherent part of the agreement. That any engagement strategy will be as simple as possible to communicate and implement in order to minimize the management overhead required to deliver on 04_Localization_Richard_Morley.odp Page 9
