One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for PartnersBusiness Opportunity’s DescriptionIndustry Telecom / UtilitiesTarget Regions Africa and Latin AmericaThe Vendor A Radio company specializing in narrowband wireless solutions for monitoring and control SCADA applications for Electricity and Water utilitiesThe Product Line High-End, Hand-made secured narrow-band point-to- multipoint radio used for monitoring and control SCADA and telemetry applications.Main Advantage Highest Security level, RF Performance, Future Proof
  5. 5. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners What is SCADA? (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) It is how utilities gain visibility, and then control, of their network assets. From a visibility / monitoring perspective: Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are located at utility assets in the field, connected to sensors, alarms, etc. A communications mechanism connects them to the network operations centre. A software program (HMI: human machine interface) to display the data, visible to the network management staff. The RTUs are connected to devices that can „act‟: switches, reclosers, pumps etc. Control signals are sent from the network operations centre to the RTU which acts upon them to control the devices.
  6. 6. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners Why monitoring and control? Electricity regulators financially reward electricity networks that improve their customer reliability by putting in smarter control systems. Improved asset use, management and protection means improved performance: better network reliability through increased efficiency and security: Real time or on demand asset monitoring Early identification and isolation of faults Preventative maintenance to extend asset life Decrease in quantity and duration of faults and outages Rapid response to weather events or malicious attacks Reduce unscheduled site visits and maintenance costs Performance improvement is delivered, brought about by improved information from SCADA system operation.
  7. 7. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners Monitoring and control become increasingly scarce…  Generation Transmission Distribution Supply … the further you get into the distribution network
  8. 8. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners Utilities have identified the distribution grid as a key area for maximum return, and the issue is reaching corporate presentations and reports: Source: Endesa Sustainability Report 2010

  10. 10. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners What does the product do for electricity? In combination with asset specific sensors and automation equipment, enables centralised remote asset management and life optimisation while reducing manpower requirements.  Transformers are essential components of electricity transmission and distributions systems and are their most valuable individual assets – early warning saves money  Automation equipment (reclosers, load break switches, and fault indicators) throughout the network are essential devices for providing maximum continuity of supply The product monitors the operation of this equipment sending reports, both routine and exceptions, to a control centers – commands may also be returned to certain field equipment for action.
  11. 11. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for PartnersWhen and where is monitoring and control being implemented?  At roll out of new infrastructure or replacement of end-of-life infrastructure, at which point monitoring / control capability is often built in as standard  Adding monitoring / control to existing  assets that have not been monitored to date
  12. 12. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners Why do business with us? Enabling smarter networks through next generation communications
  13. 13. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for PartnersWhy use point-to-multipoint radio for monitoring and control?  Monitoringand control must be on demand or in real time  Eliminating dependence on a third Radio party to provide and maintain communications is a requirement Radio  Ensuring network security is essential  Flexibilityof communications infrastructure is essential Radio  Reducing OPEX and minimizing whole life cost are key business drivers
  14. 14. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners How do we enable smarter networks? Considerations Solution Enabling Move to IP Industry‟s best security SECURITY: Attacks changing Defence in depth Threats maturing Not just encryption Enabling Whole life cost Highly configurable EFFICIENCY: 20+ year cycles Easy to manage Legacy equipment Advanced routing A solution that makes complete business Enabling the Reduce faults Serial and IP and financial sense FUTURE: Reduce maintenance Unified comms network in the long term as Identify faults earlier Unbeatable reliability networks evolve
  15. 15. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners Security 7% 5%  Security is no longer 31% physical, nor “security by 26% Adult / other obscurity”. External 52% Internal  Open networks enable Accidental enhanced monitoring and 4% 60% control, but bring new 15% vulnerabilities and opportunities for attack. Accidental External Adult / other Internal  It is no longer just ex- employees, but also those “Security Incidents and trends in SCADA and process industries” who “hack for fun” as well Eric Byres, David Leversage, Nate Kube.,2007. a = 1982-2001 b =2002-June 2008 as terrorists and state actors responsible for malicious attacks.  The result: service shutdowns, environmental concerns, direct impact on performance. “Hacking the Industrial Network”, 2009, Frank Dickman

  17. 17. One Business AvenueOne Address for Business DevelopmentSCADA PTMP Narrowband Radio for Electricity Utilities - Search for Partners Standards-based, backwards compatible, future-proof Investment in equipment needs to support the total life cost needed when forming budgets. Both backwards compatible and future-proof Supporting both legacy Serial RTUs and newer Ethernet enabled IEDs, protecting the legacy investment through transition over time to IP-based devices Integrates seamlessly into existing network topologies, and is highly configurable to allow the network to evolve along with increasing monitoring and control requirements Standards-based and supporting all relevant protocols, for long-term incorporation into SCADA networks Plan for the future, protect the past. The best of both worlds.
