A Spanish Gastronomic Adventure Prior to departure at Melbourne Airport you will be met by your MPT Worldwide Journeys host and Spanish expert Suze Healy, who will accompany you on your gastronomic journey throughout Spain. DAY 1: Madrid Arrival to Madrid and an Insider’s Tapas Tour Upon arrival in Madrid we will be met by your local Spanish hosts and transferred to AC Santo Mauro, a luxurious boutique hotel right in the heart of the city. The hotel has recently undergone a stunning refurbishment. Expect oodles of special care and attention from the general manager – a great friend and strong supporter of MPT. Meet on the rooftop after you’ve settled in with your new friends for a glass of cava (divine Spanish sparkling wine), and let your gastronomic adventure begin with an Insider’s Tapas Tour of Madrid. Immerse yourself on an interactive walking tour soaking up some of the capitals most impressive sights including the historic quarter surrounding the 17th-century Plaza Mayor and the thrilling Prado Museum. Get under the skin of this mesmerising city as you pass through a mosaic ofneighborhoods, discovering and tasting the essence of Spain on the way. Admire the soaring Gothic cathedral containing many paintings by El Greco, Van Dyck and Goya. Your morning guided tour will charm you with the history, sites and fascinating stories of this medieval village. After your morning filled with charming culture, you’ll be welcomed by the charismatic JavierAdolfo and visit his family’s 11th century bodega (wine cellar) carved into the earth, featuring over50,000 bottles of wine. Day 4: Sevilla Half day walking tour of Sevilla & Iberico Ham Experience Following breakfast you will be transferred to the train station for your private journey on the AVE high speed train to Sevilla. Upon arrival you will be checked into the Melia Colon, a warm and welcoming five star property. For lunch, a walking tapas tour of Sevilla is fun and fuelled with energy. Sevilla is arguably Spain’s most captivating city and home of tapas culture. Your guide Sebastian is a close friend of ours and afun and engaging host. A day with Sebastian won’t be forgotten. His love and passion for food, wine, flamenco, history and all things Spanish are contagious. Live and breathe his passion alongside him. Of course, you’ll take in the famous cathedral of La Giralda which features the tomb of Christopher Columbus, Alcazar Palace and its Andalusian gardens, plus the former Jewish Quarter and the bull ring... But Sebastian is a man who believes in immersing his guests in the Sevilla that he knows and loves, youll l experience far more than the average visitor and would never find “this Sevilla” on your own! Rest up in the heat of the late afternoon as this evening promises to be a foodies highlight. In the past, it was a treasured delicacy solely for Spaniards, but now Jamon Iberico is reaching thepalates of food lovers around the world. Held in Sevilla’s oldest tapas bar- El Rinconcillo - an institution in the city - delight your tastebuds with the jewel in the crown of Spanish gastronomy. A variety of tastings, coupled with tapas and local wine - forget tapas bars and jamon worldwide, this is the real thing... Day 5: Jerez de la Frontera Excursion to Jerez de la Frontera – the home of Sherry Today you will enter private “cathedrals” and “sacristies” (closed to the public) without evenentering a church. You will taste 30-year old wines with fields of ancient vines, piercing bright yellow sunflowers and red earth as your backdrop.You will be entertained once more by Sebastian and will visit at least two wineries, including a well-known bodega which traditionally sweeps the awards each year. Embrace Andulucia and all it encompasses with a long, lazy lunch inside the walls of a historic bodega. Day 6: Sevilla Private Cooking Class with a Prestigious Chef and an Evening of Sherry and Flamenco MPT has teamed up one of Sevilla’s most prestigious chefs to offer an exclusive and interactive cooking experience. Willy Moya, who was trained in Spain and Paris, runs one of Sevilla’s most dazzling restaurants, where his creative Andalusian cooking has brought him accolades from around the world. Dishes you may cook with Willy include intricate tapas, local seafood or rice dishes . Learn more about Spanish cooking with oils, sherry wines and Andulucian cooking styles. Option of combining a cooking class with a produce excursion.For example, an olive oil excursion to local olive groves could be combined with a cooking classand session on the use of olive oil in Spanish cooking, or a trip to the ham producing area would follow with a class using Iberian ham and pork. Following the tour, head to the outstanding Extebarri for a late lunch, a definite restauranthighlight of the trip. Learn about the gastronomic society, in a venue usually closed to outsiders, where Basque culinary tradition has been nurtured for centuries, resulting in the current proliferation of top restaurants in and around San Sebastian.Spend the morning cooking traditional dishes and discussing Basque cuisine with the experts. Once prepared, you will enjoy the fruits of your labour for lunch accompanied by local wines in the society’s very egalitarian and modest dining room. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.   • 7. Day 10: Barcelona A collision of cool Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your journey to Barcelona. Upon arrival, check into the Hotel Palace Barcelona.With complexity, diversity, intensity and density, you will be swept away by Barcelona. The energy hits you as you soon as you arrive and the city gets under your skin. With us, you’ll meet ourBarcelona. You’ll live and feel our passion and you’ll see why this is one of our favourite places on earth. You’ll arrive in the afternoon so feel free to take the remainder of the day at leisure. However ifyou have the inclination, we’ll be heading straight to our favourite barrio to find a table in the sun with some of our local friends and a glass of cava to reacquaint ourselves with the Barcelona we love. Come and join us. Day 11 : Barcelona Art and Design, Food and Fashion... Barcelona is bursting with art and design, food and fashion – an overflowing paradise of culture. Explore some of Gaudi’s most famous works with our expert host, tread the footsteps of Picasso and Dali and feel the creative magic flowing from the streets, visit cutting-edge local designers making an impression on the world stage, follow your nose as together we seek out even more mouth watering cuisine.
