The Water Cycle- NYY27WS

 1. 1. THE WATER CYCLE by JAKE KUBICHEK
 2. 2. CONDENSATION

the change in the phase of matter from the gaseous phase into liquid droplets.

an example of condensation is a water bottle that is wet on the outside, shown here.

 3. 3. EVAPORATION

process by which radiant energy from the sun turns liquid water into a gas.

an example of evaporation is boiling water turning into steam, shown in this picture.

 4. 4. PRECIPITATION

water that falls from the atmosphere to the earth.

an example of precipitation is snow in the middle of winter.

 5. 5. SNOW

a precipitation in the form of ice crystals, formed directly from the freezing of the water vapor in the air.

you can see snow in the months of december, january, and early february.

 6. 6. RAIN

water that is condensed from the vapor in the atmosphere and falls to earth in drops.

it is said that the most rain is in the month of april.

 7. 7. HAIL

showery precipitation in the form of irregular pellets or balls of ice.

Hail storms happen when ice drops form with raindrops and freeze instantly.

 8. 8. SURFACE RUNOFF

the water flow that occurs when soil is infiltrated to full capacity.

surface runoff happens when water from rain, snow, or other sources flows over land.

 9. 9. TRANSPIRATION

the loss of water from parts of plants, especially leaves, but also stems, flowers, and roots.

 10. 10. ACCUMULATION

accumulation is a buildup of a form of water.

an example of accumulation is a puddle after a rainstorm.
