  • NationalHealthInsurance Forum 28 February 2012 Indaba Hotel, Fourways, JHBThe  Green  Paper  on  the  National  Health  Insurance  has  created  a  buzz  of  excitement,  anticipation  and  apprehension  across  industry  as  government  rolls  out  its  proposals  for  this  long-awaited  program.     The   policy   paper   outlines   strategies   for   implementing   the   NHI   including   improving  the   healthcare   system   and   an   overhaul   of   the   management   of   the   public   healthcare   system.  However,  this  does  not  mean  the  proposals  are  not  fraught  with  challenges  and  in  some  instances  controversy  and  a  lack  of  clarity. The   10   pilot   projects   set   to   roll   out   in   April   2012   are   of   particular   interest   as   the   outcomes  determine  the  next  5  years  of  the  NHI  rollout  and  the  indicative  surveys  that  will  follow.  A  subject  for   debate   is   the   anticipated   model   South   Africa   will   follow   as   well   as,   administration   of   the  NHI   and   the   funding   thereof.     The   question   remains   although  it  seems  feasible  on  paper;;  will  the  NHI  work  successfully  given   the   South  African   climate?   This   1-day   forum   will  facilitate  discussion  on  these  and  more  policy  proposals  as  outlined  in  the  Green  Paper.
