1. GSIS iPad
Program
When will fourth and fifth graders buy and
start using their iPads?
Fourth and fifth graders will start using their iPads in class later this fall. We expect to
finalize details with our educational supplier in mid-September. At that time, we will
notify parents of what they need to order.
What will my child do on the iPad?
Based on our successful fourth-grade trial last year, we know our students will be
quick to learn to use the iPad and do things with it that we did not think possible. Our
students will use their iPads to practice basic skills, research and organize
information, communicate with one another and the world, capture their learning in
pictures, make videos that share their knowledge, write blogs to express their
passion, and many other things. We all look forward to seeing the amazing things our
students discover and create using their personal iPads.
How will my child get Apps?
You will be managing a U.S. iTunes account with your child. There are thousands of
educational apps. Some may be installed by the school and others will be installed by
you and your student.
Can you give me some help with figuring out the iPad?
We plan to hold orientation sessions with parents and students introducing them to
the iPad. GSIS will assist you in setting up the iPad for learning initially.
What if the iPad breaks or my child loses it?
We have a good track record of students using iPads at GSIS, but we will require
parents to purchase cases to provide protection for the devices. Students will learn
how to care for their iPads before they bring them home. They will only be sent home
with students when the students are able to properly care for them at school, at
home, and in-between.
2. I’m eager for my child to use the iPad. What comes next?
In mid-September, we will let you know details about purchasing an iPad and we will
announce dates for parent meetings. In the meantime, if you have questions, please
feel free to contact Mrs. Montgomery in the Tech Office at montgomeryr@gsis.sc.kr.
