ChangeTheWorld ignites passion for volunteerism in Ontario youth
BRAMPTON, Ont. – The Ontario Volunteer Centre Network is pre-launching the 6th ChangeTheWorld -
Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge in London, Ont. London’s volunteer centre Pillar Nonprofit Network
is the host of this event for 300 youth Change Champions on March 26, 2013.
“Volunteering motivates youth to create positive change in their communities,” said Carine Strong,
Chair, Ontario Volunteer Centre Network. “Pillar Nonprofit is a great partner and the City of London is a
wonderful place to inspire youth to get involved with the ChangeTheWorld campaign.”
As host, Pillar Nonprofit Network will bring together 300 students from the Thames Valley District
School Board and London District Catholic School Board. This is a free event and will feature live
entertainment by the London-based rock band U-turn and O.N.E. Hip-Hop dance studio. Guest
speakers include the directors of TVDSB and LDCSB. As well, Change Champions from London will
speak, encouraging the audience to get involved in their communities.
“The youth of London exceeded expectations last year with 927 volunteers logging in almost 6,000
hours,” said Michelle Baldwin, Executive Director, Pillar Nonprofit Network. “as hosts of this year’s pre-
launch, we’re anticipating an even larger amount of youth volunteers this year.”
The ChangeTheWorld Challenge hopes to inspire over 30,000 youth to volunteer a minimum of three
hours from April 21 to May 20, 2013. This initiative is funded by the Ontario government. Youth will
have the opportunity to volunteer with community service organizations at various events across the
province. Opportunities will be made available through the OVCN website http://ctw.ovcn.ca/.
ChangeTheWorld also encourages youth to establish their own initiatives to contribute to the challenge.
The Ontario Volunteer Centre Network (OVCN) is an unincorporated network of 23 volunteer centres in
Ontario, guided by a volunteer steering committee. Its key goal is to engage Ontarians and ignite their
passion for volunteerism. The OVCN provides a provincial network and a unified voice to strengthen
the individual and collective ability of volunteer centres in Ontario to promote and develop volunteerism.
