  • 2. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION The objective of studying safety in construction is to : Preventing accidents Ensure success of project Saving life of worker
  • 3. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION It’s applied to : Construction activities The fabrication and erection of oil rigs and of offshore installations while under construction on shore
  • 4. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION So , one must have awareness of basic construction safety terms which are : adequate, bearer , brace , by hand , cartridge-operated , client , code of practice , competent authority , competent person , construction , construction site , danger , employer , guard-rail , hazard , hoist , ledger , lifting appliance , lifting gear , means of lifting , putlog , raker , scaffold , sound material , toe board , and transom
  • 5. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION Competent authorities , employers , self-employed persons , workers , clients , and engineers should fulfill their general duties with regard to safety and there must be coordination and cooperation between them
  • 6. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION Entrance and exit should be indicated and maintained safely A suitable house keeping programme should be continously implemented at site Precautions against fall of materials , person , and collapse of structures must be taken
  • 7. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION There must be prevention of unauthorized entry There must be fire prevention and measures of fire fighting Proper and safe lighting should be provided in the absence of natural light
  • 8. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION Scaffolds and ladders must be used if required They must be made by the material and designed with safety point of view Inspection must be done by a competent person when they are being used
  • 9. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION Very special attention with respect to safety laws must be given in following works : Lifting appliances Gears Transport Material handling equipment Plant machinery Hand tools Wood working machines Work at heights Excavation Shaft
  • 10. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION Earthworks Underground work Cofferdams and caissons Work in compressed air Structural frames Formwork Concrete work Pile driving Work over water Demolition Electricity explosives
  • 11. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION There must be prevention against any kind of health hazards Occupational health services must be provided including first aid Personal protective equipment and protective clothing must be provided
  • 12. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION Special attention towards welfare of workers and employees must be paid which includes : Drinking and food facility Sanitary facility Shelters Living accomodation
  • 13. SAFETY AND HEALTH INCONSTRCUTION Proper safety information and training must be provided Reporting of accidents and diseases must be made urgently
