    2. 2. <ul><li>General scope </li></ul><ul><li>The Governmental Coordination and Crisis Centre has been established to assist the federal government in the planning and interdepartmental management of crises and major events. </li></ul><ul><li>Definition </li></ul><ul><li>A crisis is defined as an event that by its nature or its consequences: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>constitutes a threat to vital national interests or to the essential needs of the population; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>prompts rapid decision making; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>demands coordination between different departments and organisms </li></ul></ul>Who are we?
    3. 3. <ul><li>Risk analysis and emergency planning </li></ul><ul><li>Evaluation of the current news of the whole world in order to assess the possible impact on the Belgian territory </li></ul><ul><li>24h/24 on duty and continuous monitoring in collaboration with the police and information services </li></ul><ul><li>Planning, coordination and follow-up of major events (events at risk) </li></ul><ul><li>Infrastructure and organisation for crisis management </li></ul><ul><li>Security of personalities and institutions in Belgium, including foreigners, embassies, consulates and international institutions </li></ul><ul><li>National and international alarm network focal point </li></ul>Tasks
    4. 4. <ul><ul><li>The Governmental Coordination and Crisis Centre is the international focal point within the alert networks: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Ecurie (Nuclear alert system) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>BICHAT (Biological and Chemicals Attacks and Threats) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>MIC (Monitoring and Information Centre - European Union) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>EMSC (European Mediterranean Seismological Centre) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Helsinki Convention on the transboundary effects in industry </li></ul></ul></ul>International Role
    5. 5. <ul><ul><li>Organisation and coordination of emergency planning and cooperation with the authorities involved </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Drawing up of cooperation procedures with other departments and/or provincial, national and international institutions </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Cooperation between the 5 disciplines (help and emergency services) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Development of crisis management know-how </li></ul></ul>Emergency Planning
